The No. 12 ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I women’s soccer poll) CCRI Women’s soccer team traveled to Brockton, MA to play regional foe Massasoit Community College.  The Lady Knights defeated Massasoit Community College 3-0.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 10-2 on the season and 7-0 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights dominated play right from the start and it didn’t take them long to score.  Just under nine minutes into the game forward Brittany LeClair (Westerly, RI) found the back of the net on an assist from freshman midfielder Kayla Resendes (Cumberland, RI).   Four minutes later, as CCRI continued to dominate play while keeping Massasoit pinned in their own end of the field, sophomore co-captain Lauren Saritelli (Coventry, RI) scored the Lady Knights second goal on an assist from freshman midfielder Cassie Tasich (Wakefield, RI).  The Lady Knights continued their onslaught on the Warriors but could not extend the lead ending the first half of play with the 2-0 lead.

CCRI found the net early in the fifth minute of play of the second half as Lauren Saritelli tallied her second goal of the game as the Massasoit goalkeeper bobbled the ball in the goal crease from of a corner kick.  Saritelli managed to tuck the ball into the net giving the Lady Knights a 3-0 advantage as the Warrior goalkeeper could not control the ball.  CCRI continued to dominate the match throughout the second half but could not convert on many scoring opportunities as the game ended at 3-0. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Viens (North Attleboro, MA) recorded her 5th shutout victory of the season while only yielding six goals in 10 games.

Head Coach Dennis Grassini commented after the game “Our team played well but we are still not making the most of our opportunities.  We really have to start digging deeper to finish on our scoring chances.  Overall, Coach Bannan and I are pleased with the team’s efforts.”

The Lady Knights will take on Mercer County Community College from Trenton, NJ this coming Saturday at 12:00 noon for their annual “Pink Out” in honor of their 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
