Lady Knights fall to Springfield JV
The CCRI Lady Knights’ volleyball team hosted the Pride of Springfield College JV volleyball team on Friday evening. The Lady Knights were celebrating their Pink Out as they were wearing Pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Lady Knights lost 0-3 with scores of: 18-25, 18-25 and 18-25. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 23-6 on the season.
Though the Lady Knights fell there were some highlights with Annie Ragan (North Kingstown, RI) leading the Lady Knights with 10 kills adding 15 digs and two blocks followed by Paula Cadavid-Palacio (Lincoln, RI) with seven kills, 16 digs, and two aces. Other contributors included Stephanie Jefferies (Providence, RI) who was a force in the front row and added 4.5 blocks and Alanna Perry (Taunton, MA) had 3.5 blocks a kill and four digs. Head Coach Samantha Reyes commented: “Overall I was very impressed with Alanna Perry’s play. Even though her team was lacking in spirit she continued to give her team 100 % through the entire match.”
Coach Reyes commented after the match “This was a very frustrating game and the Lady Knights didn't show who they truly were tonight. I was very disappointed that they gave up lead after lead with no fight.” The Lady Knights have played Springfield JV team tough all year and came into the Friday match with a 6-6 record in 12 games with them this year and Friday was not their day. Coach Reyes added “Hopefully we will see the real Lady Knights shine at Districts, which are fast approaching.”
The Lady Knights next matches will be this Saturday when they host the New England Invitational beginning at 9:00am. The Teams and tournament schedule are still being confirmed. Saturday will, also be Lady Knights volleyball “Sophomore Day” when they will honor their five sophomores: Tri-Captain Karla Santizo (Warwick, RI), Tri-Captain Courtney Piccirillo (Harmony, RI), Alanna Perry (Taunton, MA), Johnna Gulluscio (Westerly, RI) and Stephanie Jefferies (Providence, RI).
