The CCRI Knights men’s soccer team traveled to New Rochelle, NY to play the Monroe College Mustangs.  The Knights lost to the Mustangs 8-0 with the loss the Knights fall to 2-6 on the year.

It was the Knights first time playing at this venue, first time playing under the lights and second time on a turf field with a later start time of 6:30pm.  In addition, the Knights had to re-arrange some positions because of on-going injuries.  The Knights made some very good adjustments in the defense and midfield positions holding the Mustangs to only two goals in the first half as they went in trailing 2-0.

Towards the end of the first half and to begin the second half three Knights: Chris Lopes (Pawtucket, RI), John Natareno (Providence, RI) and Emmanuel Ridore (Warwick, RI) each received yellow cards.  The Knights had to continue the game without these players who were doing an excellent job of absorbing the pressure of the Mustangs.  From there the Mustangs used their deep bench to continuously insert fresh legs into the contest.  Both these factors and the Knights injuries opened up the game for the Mustangs.  The Knights had two or three shots on the Mustangs net, but were unable to finish.  Emmett Dixon (Central Falls, RI) and Bennett Thompson (Glocester, RI) applied pressure up top in the offense but the physical play of the Mustangs made it difficult.  The Mustangs scored six goals in the second half to win by the final score of 8-0.

The Knights’ next game will be Wednesday October 5th when they will host Springfield Technical Community College from Springfield, MA at 4:00pm at the CCRI soccer complex in Lincoln, RI.
