The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued in the Frederick Community College/Goodwill Mixer on Sunday and faced No. 17 ranked Allegany College of Maryland from Cumberland, MD.  The Lady Knights lost to the Trojans 62-51.  With the loss the Lady Knights begin the season 0-2.  Though the Lady Knights came up short on the weekend freshman Jessica Randall (Warwick, RI) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Knights and Trojans battled evenly in the first half with neither team backing down but the Trojans went into the break leading by the narrow 25-24 margin.  In the second half the Trojans were able to pull away to win by 11 with the final score 62-51.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Cartrecia “Treedy” Ward (Boynton, Beach, FL)  17 points while shooting 5-8 from 3-pointland adding three assists and two steals followed by Jahira Smith  (Norwich, CT) with her second double-double in as many games with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Also helping the Lady Knights’ effort was Jessica Randall with eight points and six rebounds for her two-day effort where she averaged 11 points and 10.5 rebounds she was named to the Frederick Community College/Goodwill Mixer All-Tournament Team.

Head Coach Kate Lynch commented after the game: "We had strings of consistency for only 5-8 minute spurts both offensively and defensively. We had too many unforced turnovers. You cannot do that against a team like Allegany."

The Lady Knights’ next game will be Wednesday the 16th when they travel to Middletown, NY to play the Colts of Orange County Community College at 6:00pm.
