The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Frederick, MD to play in the Frederick Community College/Goodwill Mixer over the weekend.  In their season opener the Lady Knights faced the host Cougars of Frederick Community College.  The Lady Knights fell to the Cougars 73-69.  With the loss the Lady Knights begin the season 0-1.

The Lady Knights were in hostile territory against a very good team (4-0) and found themselves trailing by 10 points 35-25 at the half.  In the second half the Lady Knights outscored the Cougars 44-38 but the Cougar lead would hold as the Lady Knights had a couple mental breakdowns down the stretch which caused them to fall by the final score of 73-69.

Though they lost the Lady Knights did have four score in double figures and two double-doubles led by Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Norwich, CT) starting her career with a double-double featuring 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals followed by Jessica Randall (Warwick, RI) Also with a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Also contributing for the Lady Knights was Monique Plummer (Fairfield, CT) with 13 points and six rebounds and Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Head Coach Kate Lynch commented after the game: "We came of the gate with a lot of energy. We executed well in the first ten minutes. (Destinee) Jernigan really hurt us on the perimeter. We did not do a good job of recognizing her where she was after we made some defensive adjustments. We had too many turnovers in the last ten minutes of the first half. Frederick is a tough team and good teams will capitalize on that. I am happy with the overall effort. We just need to put forty minutes together."

The Lady Knights are back in action Sunday versus as they continue in the Frederick CC/Goodwill Mixer to play No. 17 ranked Allegany College of Maryland from Cumberland, MD at 1:00pm.
