The No. 7 ranked (NJCAA DII poll) CCRI Knights baseball team took the field at David Allen Memorial Park in Enid, OK in their first match-up at the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series Versus the No. 5 ranked Wolf Pack of Madison College from Madison, WI.  The Knights fell to the Wolf Pack 7-2.  With the loss the Knights fall to 33-12 on the season.  The Knights will now face No. 9 ranked Catawba Valley Community College from Hickory, NC Sunday at 4:30pm EST (3:30pm CST) in the double- elimination tournament.

On the mound for the Knights Conor Gleason (North Stonington, CT) took the mound and pitched very well but took the loss he falls to 9-3 on the season.  Gleason threw six strong innings giving up three runs while striking out four Wolf Pack batters.  Gleason pitched well enough to get the victory unfortunately for him and the Knights they just could not push enough runs across the plate.  He worked ahead of most of the batter he faced with 17 first pitch strikes but a two-run single from Wolf Pack catcher Jake Page gave Madison a 3-1 lead.  Kevin Dale (Warwick, RI) did not fare as well throwing one inning and allowing four runs.  Co-Captain Chris Peralta (Providence, RI) relieved Dale and threw two scoreless innings to close out the game for the Knights.

At the plate for the Knights Mo Checo (Providence, RI) had two hits and an RBI while Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI) also added two hits for the Knights. Co-Captain Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) had the other RBI and a walk for the Knights, Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI) added a hit, a walk, a run scored, a stolen base and a sacrifice and John Razzino (Cranston, RI) added a hit and a run scored.  Rounding out the Knights’ offense was Marc Dorsi (West Haven, CT), Jamale Horn (Hoover, AL) and Nick Coro (North Providence, RI) each added a hit apiece.

The Knights are back in action Sunday at 4:30 EST versus No. 9 ranked Buccaneers of Catawba Valley Community College.
