CCRI’s Nyjah Porcher named NJCAA DII POW!

CCRI Lady Knights’ basketball player Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) has been named NJCAA Division II women’s basketball Player of the Week for the week of March 7th.

Porcher , from New Britain, High School in Connecticut was named NJCAA Division II Player of The Week for the week of March 7th.  Porcher r recorded double-doubles in both outings last weekend. Porcher (5’ 9”) led the Knights to victory in their final two games of the regular season. The freshman posted 21 points, 16 rebounds and four assists in CCRI’s 77-70 overtime win over Dean College (Mass.). In a 65-60 upset of No. 10 Monroe College (N.Y.), Porcher scored 22 points and hauled in 10 boards. CCRI and Porcher face a rematch with No. 15 Monroe Saturday in the District N/O Tournament.

Nyjah along with the rest of the Lady Knights are preparing for the upcoming District N-O Division II women’s basketball championship tournament games.  The teams participating are: No. 1 seed Community College of Rhode Island from Warwick, RI; No. 2 seed Monroe College from New Rochelle, NY; No. 3 seed Union County College from Cranford, NJ, and No. 4 seed Lackawanna College from Scranton, PA.  The District Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday March 10th and 11th at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, NY.  The NEW schedule of games is as follows:

Saturday March 10th

Game 1: CCRI (1) vs. Lackawanna College (4) @ 3:00PM

Game 2: Union County College (2) vs. Monroe College (3) @ 5:00PM

Sunday March 11th

Championship game: Winner Game #1* vs. Winner Game #2* @ 1:00PM, 3/11/12

*Winner of games #1 and #2 will advance to NJCAA Division II National Tournament At Illinois Central Community College in East Peoria, IL March 20-24, 2012
