The CCRI Lady Knights softball team continued their play at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.  The Lady Knights faced the Pirates of North Central Missouri College from Trenton, MO.  The Lady Knights defeated the Pirates 5-2.  With the victory the Lady Knights even their record at 1-1 on the season.
Lady Knights’ sophomore pitcher Michelle Sylvestre (Warwick, RI) gained her first win of the 2012 season on the mound striking out two Pirate batters and walking only one on the game.  Sylvestre dominated on the mound, changing speeds and moving the ball despite a tough umpire with a miniscule strike zone.  In addition she helped the Lady Knights’ offense contributing two singles and two RBIs.
Offensively Sylvestre was helped  by Tri-Captain Devin Azulay (Attleboro, MA) who went 2-3 with two singles and two runs scored, Isabel MarcAurele (Cranston, RI) came in as a pinch hitter and smacked a powerful RBI double to left center field, and Katelyn Carroll (Coventry, RI) added a single, a walk, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch.
Head Coach Liz Afonso commented after the victory: “The second game today was a much better played game all around both offensively and defensively.  The mixed up lineup offensively seemed to work better this second game and the Knights scored five runs this second game.”
