Two Knights qualify for Nationals at Bears Invitational!
On Saturday the CCRI Knights track and field team traveled to Bridgewater, MA to compete in the Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational Meet, this was a non- scoring event but could qualify athletes for their national performance standards.
Two CCRI athletes earn a chance at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the first event of the 2012 season for the Knight and Lady Knights track & field teams. In here first collegiate meet Cassandra Gustafson (Pawtucket, RI) placed fourth overall with an NJCAA qualifying toss of 30.70meters in the Javelin throw. Knights’ distance running sensation Bobby Allen (Cranston, RI) won the 5,000meter run in school record and national qualifying fashion with a spectacular time of 15 minutes 16.22 seconds. Allen shattered the previous CCRI record held of 15:29.9 of Eric Russo set in 1998 by over 13 seconds!
Other Knights who competed at Saturdays meet were Marciano Brunette (Narragansett, RI) placing 5th in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1 minute 1.62 seconds. Robert Brothers (Cranston, RI) placed 17th in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:45.75. Steve Bell (Warwick, RI) 21st in the 200m dash in a time of 24.63 seconds followed by Ephraim Soe (Providence, RI) who placed 24th in 24.89 seconds. Soe also came back to place 23rd in the 100m dash in a time of 12.22 seconds.
The Nest meet for the Knights will be Saturday April 7th when they travel to North Dartmouth, MA to compete in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 10:00am.
