The CCRI Knights baseball team hosted the Mustangs of Monroe College for their home opening doubleheader on Saturday.  The Knights swept the doubleheader winning the first game 3-0 and the second 4-3.  With the victories the Knights improve to 8-6 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI- 3 Monroe- 0
The Knights scored two runs in the first inning and added one more in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Division I Monroe College of New Rochelle, NY by a score of 3-0 in the 2012 home season opener. Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI) led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single by Jamale Horn (Hoover, AL) to get the Knights on the scoreboard. Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) reached on a two base error by the Monroe right fielder and scored on an RBI single by Mike Sherburne (North Kingstown, RI) to give CCRI an early two run lead. Marc Dorsi (West Haven, CT) walked in the bottom of the fifth inning, stole second base, and scored on an error in left field to give the Knights all the runs that they would need.
On the mound for the Knights, freshman pitcher, Connor Gleason (North Stonington, CT) picked-up his fourth win of the season against no defeats as he pitched a complete game one hitter while striking out 11 Monroe hitters.
Game 2: CCRI- 4 Monroe- 3
The Knights staged a dramatic come from behind victory in the bottom of the seventh as Nick Coro (North Providence, RI) singled to left with two outs to score pinch-runner Rob West (East Windsor, CT) from second base for the walk-off win. The Knights trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Co-Captain Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) hit a solo homerun to close the gap to 3-2. Marc Dorsi led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and was bunted over to second by Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI). Max Perry (Pawtucket, RI) followed Santaniello's sacrifice bunt with a single to right field that scored Dorsi with the tying run. West went in as a pinch-runner for Perry and moved to second on a fielder’s choice. Dylan Gracia was then hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second, setting up Coro's dramatic walk-off single scoring West from second base.  Gavitt and Dorsi led the attack with two hits apiece.
On the mound, freshman Todd Lyons (Norwalk, CT) pitched five strong innings giving up two runs while striking out six Monroe hitters. Jacob Ciolfi (Cranston, RI) came on in relief to pitch the sixth inning giving up one run on two hits and Kevin Dale (Warwick, RI) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the victory.
