CCRI Splits With Northern Essex

The CCRI Knights baseball team hosted the Knights of Northern Essex Community College from Haverhill, MA in their Region XXI opener on Sunday for a doubleheader.  The Knights split the games, losing game one 7-2 but bounced back to win game two 5-4.  With the split the Knights go to 9-7 on the season and 1-1 in Region XXI play.
Game 1: CCRI- 2     Northern Essex 7
The CCRI Knights took an early lead by scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a lead-off double by Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI) and an RBI single by Jamale Horn (Hoover, AL). Northern Essex scored three runs in the top of the fourth on four hits and added four more runs in the top of the seventh to break open a close game. CCRI scored again in the fifth inning on a double by Co-Captain Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) a single to left by Horn, and a wild pitch. The CCRI Knights had eleven hits but were not able to overcome some timely hitting by Northern Essex in the 7-2 loss.
On the mound Brendan Cabral (Scituate, RI) pitched three and a third innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five. Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) pitched two and two thirds of scoreless relief into the sixth inning. Roger Lincoln (East Providence, RI) had a rough outing on the mound giving up four runs on four hits to close out the scoring in the seventh inning.
Game 2: CCRI- 5 Northern Essex- 4
The CCRI Knights rebounded in game two of the doubleheader for a five to four win behind the strong pitching effort of Co-Captain Chris Peralta (Providence, RI). Peralta scattered eight hits and three runs over five and two thirds innings to pick up the victory. Jacob Ciolfi (Cranston, RI) came on in the sixth and finished the game to record his first save of the season scattering 3 hits and one run over an inning and a third. The Knights offense scored again in the first inning on a double by Marc Dorsi (West Haven, CT) and an RBI single by Mike Sherburne (North Kingstown, RI). CCRI added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Chris Girard, a walk, a two run double by Dylan Gracia, and an RBI triple to right center by Marc Dorsi. The Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Dorsi once again sparked the offense with a double to left center and scored on an RBI single by Jamale Horn.
The CCRI Knights are back at it again tomorrow at 3:30pm at Whitey Fell field for a single game against Roxbury Community College of Boston, MA.
