Knights baseball splits DH with DI Triton College!

The CCRI Knights baseball team continued on their Florida road trip by traveling to Lakeland, FL to play Division I power Trojans Triton College for a doubleheader on Saturday.  The Knights split the doubleheader winning the first game 11-6 but falling in the second 6-5.  With the split the Knights are now 6-5 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI- 11 Triton- 6
At the plate Jamale Horn (Hoover, AL) continued to lead the Knights’ offense with two hits and three RBIs. Helping Horn offensively was Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI), Marc Dorsi (West Haven, CT), and Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI) who contributed two hits apiece as the bats continued to stay hot for the CCRI squad. On the day the Knights had 11 runs on 11 hits to beat the Trojans by a convincing five run margin.
On the mound for the Knights freshman pitcher Ben Libuda (Auburn, MA) picked up the win going five innings while scattering five hits and striking out four Trojan batters.
Game 2: CCRI- 5 Triton- 6
The Knights left the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning to fall short in the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 6-5. Sophomore Co-Captain Chris Peralta (Providence, RI) pitched a credible game giving up three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts but was the losing hurler.
The Knights’ offense was led by Co-Captain Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) with two hits and an RBI, Mike Sherburne (North Kingstown, RI) and Marc Dorsi also contributed two hits. Rounding out the Knights’ attack was Nick Coro (North Providence, RI), Chris Girard (Stonington, CT), and Mickey Gonzalez (Jersey City, NJ) each added a single but the team could not muster up enough offense and fell just short of victory.
The Knights conclude their Florida road trip Sunday at 12noon when they will travel to Leesburg, FL to play Lake Sumter Community College.
