Knights split with Genesee

The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, FL for their second spring training trip.  The Knights faced the Cougars of Genesee Community College from Batavia, NY for a doubleheader on Thursday.  The Knights split with the Cougars, losing the first game 4-3 and winning the second 2-1.  With the split the Knights are now 4-4 on the season.    
Game 1: CCRI- 3 Genesee CC- 4
CCRI loses game one on a walk-off fielder’s choice as Genesee scores three runs in the sixth inning and one in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Knights 4-3. Brendan Cabral (Scituate, RI) pitched six innings giving up eight hits and had four strikeouts in the tough luck loss.
Offensively Jamale Horn (Hoover, AL) led the Knights with two hits and a run scored and John Razzino (Cranston, RI) chipped in with a single, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Game 2:  CCRI- 2 Genesee CC- 1
Marc Dorsi (West Haven CT) came through with a clutch RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win. The Knights offense was led by Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI) with two hits and a run scored, Dorsi with two hits including the game winner, and Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI) also added two hits.
On the mound for the Knights Freshman pitcher Todd Lyons (Norwalk, CT) picked up his second win of the season with a strong seven inning performance giving up only six hits while striking out and impressive eight Genesee batters.
The Knights play Skylanders of Sussex County College from Newton, NJ Friday at 5:00pm in Auburndale, FL.
