Knights’ bats fall silent as they are swept by Mercer CC
the CCRI baseball team traveled to Trenton, NJ top play the Vikings of Mercer County Community College on Sunday for a doubleheader. The Knights fell to the Vikings 2-0 and 3-1. With the losses the Knights drop to 3-3 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI-0 Mercer CC-2
Mercer scored a single run in the bottom of the third and another unearned run in the bottom of the fifth for the only scoring of the game. Freshman Ben Libuda (Auburn, MA) made his collegiate debut pitching the first three innings giving up one run and three hits while striking out three. Kevin Dale (Warwick, RI) pitched the next three innings giving up one unearned run in the fifth inning and three hits while striking out one. Tom Gavitt (Stonington, CT) and Nick Coro (North Providence, RI) were the only Knights to get a hit as the team left six runners on base.
Game 2: CCRI-1 Mercer CC-3
The Knights garnered five hits in game two led by freshman John Razzino (Cranston, RI) who went 2-2 with a stolen base but the offense sputtered again leaving six runners on base. Dylan Gracia (Middletown, RI), Nick Coro (North Providence, RI), and Mike Sherburne (North Kingstown, RI) also added singles. Freshman Todd Lyons (Norwalk, CT) got the loss going three innings giving up three runs and five hits while striking out five Mercer hitters. Connor Gleason (North Stonington, CT) pitched three innings of effective relief giving up three hits and no runs while striking out three. Mercer scored two runs in the first inning and a single run in the third for their runs. CCRI has a week off before heading to Orlando, Florida for six games during Spring break.
