The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY on Saturday.  The Lady Knights defeated the Colts 84-42.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 12-8 on the season.

The Lady Knights controlled the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer.  They took a 36-20 lead into halftime.  In the second half they played even better than the first with five players scoring in double-figures for the game, a season-high 11 3-pointers, sharing the ball with 23 assists with 19 steals, and out-rebounding the Colts 39-29.  Head Coach Kate Lynch commented:  "We played very unselfishly. We were aggressive on both ends of the floor and it paid off."

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Norwich, CT) with 11 points, including two 3-pointers and a career-high 14 assists adding five steals and three rebounds followed by Moe Plummer (Fairfield, CT) with a career-high 16 points, including two 3-pointers, with three assists, four rebounds and two steals.  Also playing well for the Lady Knights was Jess Randall (Warwick, RI) with 14 points, including two 3-pointers, with four rebounds, and two steals and Jenna Ayala (Paterson, NJ) added 10 points with seven rebounds and four steals.   Rounding out the Lady Knights top performers was Co-Captain Lauren Masse (Woonsocket, RI) with 12 points all three’s on an impressive 4-6 shooting from behind the 3-point arc, Ashley Welly (Coral Springs, FL) added nine points, five rebounds and two steals and Krista Trenholm (Hope Valley, RI) added six points, nine rebounds and a steal that led to her own fast-break basket, one of the games’ many highlights.

Coach Lynch added after the game: "Our goal was to play with same intensity for 40 minutes from top to bottom. I think we did a pretty good job of that especially in the second half."

The Lady Knights are back in action Thursday when they will travel to Roxbury, MA to play No. 4 ranked (NJCAA DIII poll) Tigers of Roxbury Community College at 5:00pm.
