The No. 13 ranked (NJCAA Division II poll) CCRI Knights hosted the Vikings of Mercer County Community College from West Windsor, NJ on Saturday.  The Knights defeated the Vikings 56-40.  With the victory the Knights improve to an impressive 15-2 on the season.

This game was a return match from the Knights’ first game of the season where CCRI defeated the Vikings 61-25.  The Knights did not have it as easy this time around.  The Vikings added a couple of quality players and had a very deliberate game plan which they executed very well. The Knights still led the Vikings 29-26 at halftime though they were not playing their best basketball. In the second half CCRI opened up with a different zone defense that disrupted the flow of Mercer’s offense those missed shots translated into transition baskets for the Knights. From there the Knights pulled away from the Vikings and win by the final score of 50-46.

Leading the way for the Knights was Roger Livramento (Central Falls, RI) charting another double-double with 13 points while ripping down 17 rebounds while adding three steals a steal and a blocked shot.  Livramento was helped by Keith Lackerson (Brooklyn, NY) scoring 10 points with five rebounds, Desmond Williams (Torrington, CT) with 10 points, three steals, two assists and a block, and Bryan Yarce (Cranston, RI) added eight points, three assists and two steals.

After the game Head Coach Rick Harris remarked: “All wins are good wins and it was a nice team victory today. In a game like today’s game, Keith Lackerson’s effort was instrumental to our success. The young men have earned a bit of a rest as we do not play our next game until next Saturday in the CCRI Invitational. We’ll get our work in and prepare for a couple of strong opponents: Bunker Hill CC from Boston, MA on Saturday and nationally ranked Division I Monroe College of New Rochelle, NY on Sunday.”

The Knights next game will be next Saturday the 14th when they host Bunker Hill Community College from Boston, MA at 7:00pm as part of the 2012 CCRI Invitational.  They will continue in the CCRI Invitational Sunday at 6:00pm when they will face NJCAA Division I powerhouse and currently ranked No. 1 Monroe College Mustangs (13-2).
