Allen sets two more CCRI Records at Wesleyan Meet!
The CCRI indoor track team traveled to Middletown, CT to compete in the second Wesleyan Invitational. The Knights won three events highlighted by the performances of middle-distance runner Bobby Allen Jr. (Cranston, RI) and sprinter Anthony Cox (Brooklyn, NY).
Middle-distance specialist Bobby Allen won the mile run in a new CCRI school record of 4 minutes 21.91 seconds. This was the second time he has set the mile record this year at a Wesleyan meet as he previously set the school mark of 4:23.04 in December his time is also an automatic qualifier for the NJCAA Indoor Nationals. Allen came back and also won the 800m in a school record-time of 2:04.07, narrowly edging the former mark set by Everett LaMountain in 2009 of 2:04.95. Sprinter Anthony Cox won the 60m dash in an impressive time of 7.08 seconds. Ben Marino (Warwick, RI) placed 2nd in the mile behind Allen in a time of 5:01.79 while Isaiah Hector (Warwick, RI) placed 2nd in the 800m in a time of 2:21.43. Hector also placed fifth in the mile in a time of 5:12.69. Marciano Brunette (Narragansett, RI) placed 4th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 6 inches then placed 9th in the 400m run in a time of 56.18. Rounding out the Knights’ competitors was Robert Brothers (Cranston, RI) who placed 12th in the mile in a time of 5:38.30 and he placed 8th in the 800m in a time of 2:35.50.
The Knights’ next meet will be this Saturday January 21st when they will travel back to Middletown, CT to compete in the third Wesleyan Invitational beginning at 10:00 am.
