The CCRI Lady Knights traveled to Groton, CT for their last game of the 2011 calendar year versus Top 20 ranked (NJCAA Division III) and Region XXI interdivisional foe Pointers of UConn-Avery Point.  The Lady Knights defeated the Pointers 79-58.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 10-3 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights knew they would be in for a tough battle against a very strong top ranked DIII UCAP squad and brought the game to their interdivisional foe.  CCRI came out on fire and took a 44-28 lead into halftime.  After some halftime adjustments the Lady Knights came out with even more intensity and extended their lead to 35 points with about ten minutes remaining.  A few defensive lapses and mental breakdowns let UCAP shrink the lead but the Lady Knights still won comfortably 79-58.  Head Coach Kate Lynch commented: "Our main focus was to try to keep our intensity for the full 40 minutes. We got up about 35 with ten minutes to play and slipped a little bit. We are getting better at that. It is a ‘young’ thing. We just need to mature a bit more."

Lady Knights Co-Captain Lauren Masse (Woonsocket, RI) exploded for 21 points while canning seven 3-pointers from behind the arc while dishing out two assists. Masse was helped by three teammates who charted double-doubles beginning with Jess Randall (Warwick, RI) who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds adding four assists and two steals, Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Norwich, CT) scored 10 points and dished out 11 assists adding five steals and four rebounds while Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) chipped in with 18 points and 10 boards and dished out five assists.

Coach Lynch added after the game: "I'm very happy with their effort. We had a lot of players really step up and do some good things. We found each other offensively. We were really looking for one another and we are fun to watch when that happens."

The Lady Knights return to action on Tuesday January 3rd when they travel to Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, FL during their four game Florida road trip where CCRI will play three additional NJCAA Division I institutions:  Broward College Thursday the 5th, Indian River State College Friday the 6th, and finally St. Petersburg College on Sunday January 8th.
