The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Manchester, CT on Tuesday for their final game before semester break versus the Cougars of Manchester Community College in a Region XXI interdivisional match-up.  The Lady Knights defeated the Cougars 76-50.  With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 9-3 on the season and stay perfect with a 4-0 record in Region XXI play.

CCRI started a bit slowly in this interdivisional match-up but once they got their bearings they garnered control of the game by taking a 22 point lead at halftime with the score 38-16. From there they never looked back.  Head Coach Kate Lynch commented: "We got off to a slow start in the first seven minutes of the game."  In the second half the Lady Knights outscored the Cougars 38-34 to cruise to the 76-50 victory. In a total team effort the Lady Knights finished with 38 rebounds, 22 assists, 14 steals and seven blocked shots on the night.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Treedy Ward (Boynton Beach, FL) who tallied 21 points including three 3-pointers while adding four assists. Co-Captain Jahira Smith (Norwich, CT) finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Nyjah Porcher (New Britain, CT) scored 14 points with a game-high eight assists, three steals, and five rebounds. The CCRI frontcourt was led by Jenna Ayala (Patterson, NJ) pulled down 10 boards and chipped in with four points Krista Trenholm (Hope Valley, RI) added six points, seven rebounds and game-high five blocked shots, and Jess Randall (Warwick, RI) added seven points and five rebounds.

Coach Lynch added after the game: "We have some difficulty with consistency when we are ahead. Our intensity level drops off a little. We really need to start fixing that part of our game. It is tough for us to string together 40 full minutes of basketball. It's a learning thing. We will get there. I'm happy with the effort. It is another road win for us. We are a young team, but we've shown we can stayed poised enough on the road to get the win."

The Lady Knights’ next game will be during break Thursday December 29th when they travel Groton, CT to play UConn-Avery Point at 6:00pm.
