The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team continued their play in the Monroe College Mustang Invitational on Sunday by facing Division I power Harcum College from Bryn Mawr, PA.  The Knights suffered their first loss of the season to the DI power 82-60.  With the loss the Knights fall to 8-1 on the season.

The Knights came out of the gates flying as they took a 9-6 lead four minutes into the game. However, the Bears of Harcum answered with an 8-0 run to take a 16-9 lead and never trailed again.  The combination of lightning quick guards complemented by seven big men ranging from 6’6” to 6’9” proved too much for the Knights to handle.   CCRI did put up a fight in the second half cutting the Harcum lead to 59-46 with 14 minutes left but that is as close as they would get.  The Knights did manage to outscore Harcum in the second half 34-33 but fell by the final score of 82-60.

The Knights were led by Rogerio Livramento (Central Falls, RI) with his second consecutive double-double scoring all 11 of his points in the second half to go with 13 rebounds and two blocked shots. Livramento was helped by Desmond Williams (Torrington, CT) with a team-high 13 points, Trevor Mabry (Norwich, CT) added 10 points and nine rebounds to go with three steals and two blocked shots and Anthony Henry (Danbury, CT) added nine points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.

Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the game “We went up against a very good and determined team today. It was going to take total team play and superb execution to beat them. We did not do either thing exceptionally well.  Hopefully we are learning from this game today and will bring forth the needed effort Wednesday when we take on Dean College in a division league game.  From this loss today I am sure we will have our team’s undivided attention over the next two practice days.”

The Knights will host Region XXI rival Dean College on Wednesday the 7th at 8:00pm as part of a doubleheader following the Lady Knights who will play the Bulldogs at 6:00pm at the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse located on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.
