Knights’ Tennis blanks Bees for Region XXI title!

TennisThe CCRI tennis team traveled to Fall River, MA to play the Bees of Bristol Community College for the Region XXI Championship. The Knights improve to 11-1 on the season while extending a 10-match win streak and where undefeated in Region XXI with a perfect 3-0 region record. CCRI finished with five shutouts and four 8-1 victories out of their 11 victories. All-in-all this has been one of the most successful seasons in recent CCRI Tennis history.
Starting with singles, Michael Fallone (North Providence, RI) dispatched Jeff Pavao in first singles 6-0 and 6-1. Anthony Lamborghini (Smithfield, RI) defeated Alex Sousa in second singles 6-0 and 6-0. Nicholas DeAngelis (Northborough, MA) avenged his loss from earlier in the week defeating Ethan Grillo 6-1 and 6-1 in third singles. Ross Bouchard (South Kingstown, RI) defeated Brian Archillo in fourth singles 6-1 and 6-2. Timothy Holzinger (Foster, RI) in fifth singles defeated Rex Thim 6-1 and 6-2. Nicholas Morin (North Smithfield, RI) in sixth singles closed out his match against Raul Xavier, defeating him 6-1 and 6-1. Fallone and Lamborghini in first doubles defeated Grillo and Pavao 8-0. Bouchard and Holzinger defeated Sousa and Archillo 8-1 in second doubles. DeAngelis and Morin prevailed over Xavier and Thim, in third doubles 8-1. CCRI won the Region XXI Championship convincingly 9-0.
Head Coach Deb Panzica added after the championship: “This was a great season for the 2012 version of the CCRI Knights tennis team. The win completed a ten-match win streak and closed the season with an 11-1 record. We look forward to forging a long-lasting relationship with the Bees from Bristol Community College.”
Next up for the Knights will be the 2012 NJCAA National Tournament in Plano, TX, May 11-17.
