Knights’ Tennis blank Bristol Bees 9-0!


The CCRI tennis team traveled to Fall River, MA to play the Bees of Bristol Community College for a Region XXI league match.   The return to Region XXI play for the CCRI Knights also signaled a return winning season after the disappointing 2011 season where they went 5-6. In the first of three region matches over the next eight days, CCRI defeated Bristol CC 9-0. With the victory the Knights improve to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in Region XXI play.
Starting with doubles, Mike Fallone (North Providence, RI) and Anthony Lamborghini (Smithfield, RI) in 1st doubles defeated Ethan Grillo and Alex Sousa 8-1. Ross Bouchard (South Kingstown, RI) and Timothy Holzinger (Foster, RI) defeated Jeff Pavao and Raul Xavier 8-1 in 2nd doubles. Nicholas DeAngelis (Northborough, MA) and Nicholas Morin (North Smithfield, RI) prevailed over Brian Archillo and Rex Thim in 3rd doubles 8-0.

In the singles matches Fallone dispatched Pavao in 1st singles 6-0 and 6-0. Lamborghini defeated Sousa in 2nd singles 6-0 and 6-0. DeAngelis defeated Grillo 6-4 and 6-0. Bouchard defeated Archillo in 4th singles 6-3 and 6-1. Holzinger in 5th singles defeated Thim 6-1 and 6-3. Morin in 6th singles, closed out his match against Xavier defeating him 10-0 in a 10-game pro-set since all the other matches had been completed. CCRI won the match 9-0.

Head Coach Deb Panzica commented: This was a great result for the 2012 version of the CCRI Knights tennis team. The win guarantees a .500 or better record, and defeating brand-new Region XXI opponents Bristol CC in the first of three matches this season. We look forward to forging a long-lasting relationship with the Bees from Bristol Community College.”
