Lady Knights sweep Massasoit 11-3 and 10-3!

The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Brockton, MA to play the Warriors of Massasoit Community College for a Region XXI league doubleheader.  The Lady Knights defeated the Warriors 11-3 and 10-3.  With the doubleheader sweep the Lady Knights improve to 23-7 on the season and finish the season a perfect 10-0 in Region XXI play.
 
Game 1: CCRI- 11 Massasoit CC- 3
On the mound for the Lady Knights Michelle Sylvestre (Warwick, RI) improved to 8-1 on the season.  Sylvestre allowed three earned runs on six hits, walking none and striking out five Warrior batters.  Michelle is also ranked No. 50 (NJCAA DII) in ERA coming in at 1.909.
 
At the plate for the Lady Knights Kate Carroll (Coventry, RI) led the way going 4-4 with a double, a triple three runs scored, three RBIs, three stolen bases and two runs scored and Kayla Matarese (Cranston, RI) was 2-2 with a home runs, three RBIs and a runs scored.  Also helping CCRI offensively was Izzy MarcAurele (Cranston, RI) with two hits including a double, Tri-Captain Ashley Olson (Coventry, RI) with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and a stolen base while Nissa Perez (Warwick, RI) and Sarah Siconio (Warwick, RI) both added a hit apiece.
 
Game 2: CCRI-10 Massasoit CC- 3
On the mound for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Devin Azulay (Attleboro, MA) was excellent, allowing three runs, none earned on three hits with no walks while striking out eight Warrior batters.  With her great performance Azulay extends her strikeout record to 194 Career strikeouts and is now ranked No. 15 (NJCAA DII) in strikeouts with 87 and No. 42 in ERA at 1.795.   Devin also helped her own cause at the plate with two hits, two RBIs a run scored and a stolen base.     
 
Offensively for CCRI Kate Carroll remained hot as she added two more hits, including a triple with three runs scored and swiped five stolen bases. Carroll is ranked No. 3 (NJCAA DII) in stolen bases with 39 on the season, the 39 stolen bases also places Carroll No.2 on the all-time Career  stolen base list behind Nissa Perez’s 69 Career stolen bases. Also helping the CCRI attack was Sarah Siconio with two hits, two RBIs and a sacrifice, Izzy MarcAurele with two hits and two runs scored, Leslie Peralta (Providence, RI) added two hits, three stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored and Ashley Olson added a hit, two walks and two runs scored.  For her Career, Olson now has 108 hits, just two away from Jess Borden’s record 110 and a CCRI record 96 RBIs.    
 
Head Coach Liz Afonso commented after the doubleheader “Two more big Region XXI wins today.  We had another big day offensively from everyone with some very good pitching.  We will look to stay hot when we play a very good Monroe College team this Sunday and as we move into the post season.”
