Lady Knights drop three in Pennsylvania
the CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Mercyhurst North East in North East, PA and were scheduled to play seven games but due to weather only got three of them in. Making matters worse the Lady Knights did not play their best softball and came away from the weekend 0-3 to drop their overall record to 19-7 on the season.
The Lady Knights fell 7-4 to Lakeland Community College from Kirtland, OH in the first game. In the second game they faced No. 7 ranked (NJCAA DII poll) Owens community College from Toledo, OH and lost 10- in six innings by the mercy rule and capped the day with a 10-1 loss to No. 17 ranked Mercyhurst North East from North East, PA 10-1 in four and a half innings. The Lady Knights had leads in all three games but were victimized by one really bad inning in each game that cost them. Head Coach Liz Afonso commented “I do not think we were overmatched and thought we had the talent to win each game. However, when you play softball at the collegiate level you must execute and minimize your mistakes especially with good teams like we played this weekend”

On the mound for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Devin Azulay (Attleboro, MA) took the loss throwing seven innings allowing seven runs, five earned on 10 hits, walking two and striking out three. At the plate Azulay contributed a double, an RBI and a run scored.
