Lady Knights hold-off Hudson Valley 8-5 and 15-6!
The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Troy, NY to play the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College for a doubleheader on Friday. The Lady Knights were victorious over the Vikings 8-5 and 15-6. With the two wins the Lady Knights improve to 15-4 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI- 8 HVCC- 5
The Lady Knights began the scoring in the second inning with RBI singles from Kayla Matarese (Cranston, RI) and Michelle Sylvestre (Warwick, RI). CCRI continued to score runs in the third inning with back-to-back homeruns from Ashley Olson (Coventry, RI) and Izzy MarcAurele (Cranston, RI). The bats stayed hot in the fourth with a triple from Devin Azulay (Attleboro, MA) who later scored. The hot offense was enough to go with a very good performance from Sylvestre on the mound to lead CCRI to victory.
On the mound for the Lady Knights Michelle Sylvestre maintained her perfect record throwing seven strong innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Sylvestre allowed five runs, four earned on 10 hits, walking one and striking out a season-high nine Viking batters. At the plate she helped herself with a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Also at the plate for the Lady Knights Tri-Captain Devin Azulay led the way with three hits including a triple with a run scored followed by Izzy MarcAurele with two hits, including a homerun, with an RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Also helping the CCRI attack was Kayla Matarese who also had three hits with a stolen base and two runs scored, Tri-Captain Ashley Olson added a homerun while Kate Carroll (Coventry, RI) added two hits and a walk.
Game 2: CCRI- 15 HVCC- 6
The Lady Knights exploded for 14 runs in the third inning to blow the game wide open led by a 3-run homer from Nissa Perez (Warwick, RI), while Kate Carroll, Kayla Matarese and Tri-Captain Mel Iadeluca (Warwick, RI) each added two hits apiece to put the game out of reach.
On the mound for CCRI Devin Azulay got the start and the win throwing three dominant innings allowing no runs on just two hits with a walk while striking out four Viking batters. Azulay was relieved by Kayla Matarese who struggled a bit, but the game was well in hand, as she pitched two innings allowing six runs, five earned on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. At the plate both helped their own cause: Azulay with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Matarese with two hits, including a double with four RBIs and a run scored.
Also helping the Lady Knights offensively was Kate Carroll with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs and Nissa Perez with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored. Rounding out the attack for CCRI was Ashley Olson with a hit, two runs scored and three walks, Mel Iadeluca with two hits and two runs scored while Izzy MarcAurele and Sarah Siconio (Warwick, RI) added a hit apiece.
The Lady Knights travel to South Portland, MA to play the Sea Wolves of Southern Maine Community College Saturday.
