Knights Sweep Penmen 4-0 and 5-3!
The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Manchester, NH to play the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University. The Knights swept the doubleheader 4-0 and 5-3. With the two victories the Knights win their 10th game in a row and improve to 24-8 on the season.
Game 1: CCRI- 4 SNHU- 0
On the mound for the Knights Ben Libuda (Auburn, MA) continued his impressive streak of pitching as he threw six innings of shutout ball scattering five hits and striking out seven Penman hitters to pick up the victory. This was Libuda's fourth consecutive excellent outing and second consecutive wins he improves his individual record to 2-1 on the season. Rodger Lincoln (East Providence, RI) continued to impress as the teams closer as he came on in relief of Libuda to record three strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the victory.
At the plate for the Knights John Razzino (Cranston, RI) and Mo Checo (Providence, RI) led the offensive attack with two hits apiece and Checo continued to contribute by scoring two runs and driving in another as the Knights pounded out seven hits to go along with solid defense and tremendous pitching.
Game 2: CCRI- 5 SNHU- 3
The Knights staged a dramatic comeback in game two of the doubleheader as they scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game and added two more runs in the top of the seventh to win game two of the doubleheader. Kevin Dale (Warwick, RI) pitched six solid innings giving up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning while shutting out the Penman over the other five innings to pick up the victory. Dale scattered six hits while walking three and striking out six hitters. Rodger Lincoln came on in relief of Dale to pick up the save by throwing a scoreless seventh inning to wrap up the victory for the Knights.
Offensively, Tyler Santaniello (Lincoln, RI) led the offensive attack with three hits including a dramatic RBI single in the top of the seventh to drive in the go-ahead run for CCRI. Mo Checo added two hits and Marc Dorsi (West Haven, CT) and Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, CT) scored two runs apiece.
The Knights travel back to New Hampshire this afternoon to take on Franklin Pierce University in a 4:00pm start.
