CCRI participants post personal-bests at Silfen meet!
The CCRI track teams traveled to New London, CT to take part in the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational on Saturday. The Knights finished seventh out of
12 teams with 34 points with UMass-Dart mouth winning with 175 points. The Lady Knights finished 10th out of 13 teams with eight points with UMass-Dartmouth placing first with 121 points.
The Knights got a great performance from Howard Homes (Narragansett, RI) who placed fourth in the shot put at his second-ever collegiate track and field meet with a 12.77meter NJCAA division III qualifying toss. For the Lady Knights Cassandra Gustafson (Pawtucket, RI) threw her best toss of the year in the Javelin to improve on her No. 1 seed ranking in the III NJCAA. She placed second in the event with a 33.33m toss.
Other scoring Knights were Anthony Cox (Brooklyn, NY) placed second in the 100m dash in 11.27 seconds then came back to place fifth in the 200m at 23.23 seconds and fourth in the Long Jump leaping 5.97 meters. Distance specialist Bobby Allen (Cranston, RI) placed second in the 5,000m in 15 minutes 35.26 seconds and sixth in the 800m in 1:59.00. Marciano Brunette (Narragansett, RI) also had a very good meet placing 8th in the 400m Hurdles in 1:00.61.
Other Knights at the meet were Zack Iem (Cranston, RI) who placed 27th in both the 100m in 12.76 seconds and 200m in 25.25 seconds. Robert Brothers (Cranston, RI) placed 32nd in the 800m in a season-best time of time of 2:17.75. Isaiah Hector (Warwick, RI) placed 26th in the 800m in a time of 2:11.26 and 31st in the 200m in a time of 25.89.
The next meet for CCRI will be this Sunday when they compete in the Brown University Open beginning at 11am.
