Knight’s Apollos Wade earns NJCAA DII Basketball player of the week for week of 2/24/10!

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO: February 24, 2010- Dejuan Plummer of Frank Phillips College (Texas), Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) of Community College of Rhode Island, and Justin Glover of Davidson County Community College (N.C.) have been named the NJCAA men's basketball Players of the Week for the week ending February 21.
Wade, 5'10" guard from Taunton, Mass., is the Division 2 player of the week after an outstanding week where he helped the Knight's to three more wins this season. In a 121-74 rout of UCONN-Avery Point, Wade scored just four points on 2-of-3 from the field. In this game he was truly a pass first, shoot second player as he dished out 19 assists, with six rebounds, and three steals. Two days later in an 88-74 win over Dean College (Mass.), the sophomore scored a career high 26 points on 8-of-10 from the field, 4-of-6 from three point land, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. In this game, he also had five rebounds and seven assists. On Feb. 20, in a 69-58 win over ASA (N.Y.), he scored 14 points on 4-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and again went a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Completing the double-double for the game, he dished out 11 assists, had four rebounds and had one steal. For the week he averaged 14.6 points per contest on 70 percent shooting (14-20), 66 percent from downtown (6-9), 100 percent from the line (10-10), as well as averaging five rebounds per game (15), 15.6 assists (47), and 1.3 steals (4). Warwick, R.I. –February 23, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team will travel to Bronxville, NY to the Campbell Sports Center on the Campus of Sarah Lawrence College, host gym of Monroe College, to play in the Region XV Basketball Championship this Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Knights will be the No. 3 seed and face No. 2 seed Orange County CC Saturday at 1:00pm. The No. 1 seed Monroe College will play No. 4 Dean College at 5:00pm Saturday. The winner will meet Sunday at 1:00pm on Sunday the 28th at 1:00pm with the winner advancing to the Northeast District Tournament to be held at the winner of the Division II Region III champion. CCRI Knights’ Esaie Touze earns NJCAA DII Basketball player of week for week of 2/17/10!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - C.J. Washington from Connors State College (Okla.), Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) of Community College of Rhode Island, and Jackie Lindsay of Springfield Technical Community College (Mass.) have been selected the NJCAA Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Feb. 7-13.
Touze, a 6'5" Center from Providence R.I. is the division 2 player of the week for a week that included two double-doubles and two more wins for CCRI. On Feb. 11, in a 78-65 win over Massasoit CC, the sophomore scored 12 points on 5-of-10 from the field, and 2-of-2 from the line. In that game he also had 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Later in the week in a 76-71 win over Massachusetts Bay CC, Touze had his best game of the week scoring 22 points on 9-of-11 from the field, and 4-of-5 on free throws. With his dominating presence down low, he grabbed 17 off the boards with one steal and four blocks. In the week he averaged 17 points on 67 percent from the field (14-21), 86 percent from the line (6-7), 14 rebounds, and had a total of four assists, one steal, and eight blocked shots. Wade and Burns lead Knights over ASA 69-58!

Warwick, R.I. – July 16, 2009: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted the Division I Avengers of ASA from New York, NY on Saturday. The Knights defeated the Avengers 69-58. With the victory the Knights end the regular season 18-12. Saturday was also Sophomore Day for the Knights where they honored departing sophomores: Co-Captain Pat Sturdahl (Exeter, RI), Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA), Co-Captain Jason Collier (Killingly, CT), Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) and Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) Leading the way for the Knights were two of the Knights’ sophomores: Colin Burns who tied a career-high with 29 points, 23 in the second half adding seven rebounds and Apollos Wade charted a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists adding four rebounds. Also having a big day was Sophomore Esaie Touze who only scored five points but ripped down 10 rebounds and played great on defense adding three blocked shots and freshman TJ McKiver (New Haven, CT) just missed a double-double with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the victory “What a sophomore day for us! I was very happy to see the sophomores bring home a victory on their special day. This was great preparation for the Region XXI Championship next weekend. I could not ask more of our guys than they have given and we are right where we want to be as a team going into next weekend. We truly believe the best is yet to come.” The Knights will travel to Franklin, MA to play Dean College Saturday February 27th at 2:00pm.

Norris breaks 60m record again to qualify for NJCAA Track and Field Nationals!

Warwick, R.I. – February 22, 2010: Blest Norris (Pawtucket, RI) traveled to Harvard University on Sunday to participate in the USA Track and Field New England Championships. Norris was still trying to post a qualifying time for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Not only did he qualify but, Norris broke the CCRI 60m dash record with an amazing 6.93 second time outdoing the time of 6.97 which he set back on December 12th on the very same track. With this time Blest is ranked in the top 30 in the NJCAA in the 60m and 200m dash. Both Blest Norris and Ashley Noons (North Dighton, MA) have qualified for the championships. Noons is currently ranked in the top 20 in the shot put and will also compete in the weight throw. The NJCAA Indoor Track National Championships will be held March 4th and 5th at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.

Lady Knights lose to ASA 72-51

Warwick, R.I. – February 22, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball hosted the Division I Avengers of ASA from New York, NY on Saturday. The Lady Knights lost to ASA 72- 51. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 12-16 on the season. The Lady Knights trailed 37-18 at half and tried to get back into the game in the second half but the powerful Avengers were just too much as they won by the final of 72-51. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Teighlor Clare-Kearney (Manchester, CT) scoring 19 points with two steals followed by Cassie Novicky (New Milford, CT) with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Also playing well for the Lady Knights were Noel Bullock (Greenbelt, MD) with seven points and four assists, Kaitlyn Rachiele (Scituate, RI) with seven points, four rebounds and a steal and Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) led the Lady Knights with 10 rebounds. Head Coach Kevin Monagle commented after the game “Great effort, just missed a ton of shots. We need to make those to keep a good team like ASA close. We showed great intensity and effort, and we look to have that carry into next weekend.” The Lady Knights advance to play in the Region XXI/Region XV Tournament to be held at Sarah Lawrence College (home court of Monroe College) the winner will advance to the Northeast District Championship. The Lady Knights will face Orange College on Saturday  at 1:00 pm in the semi-finals with the winner to face the winner of the Monroe College vs. Dean game on Sunday.

Novicky and Clare-Kearney lead Lady Knights over Dean College 63-47!

Warwick, R.I. – February 19, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Franklin, MA to play Region XXI rival Dean College Thursday night. The Lady Knights defeated the Bulldogs 63-47. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 12-15 on the season and 4-3 in Region XXI play. The win also earns the Lady Knights their seventh consecutive Region XXI Championship. The Lady Knights took control of the game from the opening tap and never looked back leading at the half 32-25 and cruising to a 63-47 victory. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Cassie Novicky (New Milford, CT) scoring a game-high 22 pts including six 3-pointers with seven rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals followed by Teighlor Clare-Kearney (Manchester, CT) who took over the game twice defensively in the second half to spark the Lady Knights while scoring 10 points with four steals and two assists. Also having a big game was Captain Erica Pisaturo (Smithfield, RI) scoring 14 points with four rebounds and two assists, Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) with six points a game-high 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals, and point guard Noel Bullock (Greenbelt, MD) charted a career-high seven assists. Head Coach Kevin Monagle commented on the big Region XXI victory “Great victory at a tough place to play. Nice to repeat as Region XXI Champions! It is always special playing for a title. We started the game with great intensity and never forfeited the lead. We shared the ball well, played great team defense at times and did what we had to do to win on the road. We received great efforts tonight from Rajvi Jarvis, Kate Rachiele and Alexis Smith (three assists and two steals). We are looking forward to sophomore day and then the Region tournament next weekend.” The Lady Knights next game is this Saturday at noon when they will face ASA from New York City, which will also be Sophomore Day where they will honor their departing players: Erica Pisaturo (Smithfield, RI), Katie Andrews (South Kingstown, RI), Lori Bergeron (Jaffrey, NH), Alexis Smith (Wakefield, RI) and Michaela Lima (Cranston, RI).

Wade and Rivera and Touze lead Knights over Dean College 88-74!

Warwick, R.I. – February 19, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Franklin, MA to play Region XXI rival Dean College on Thursday night. The Knights defeated the Bulldogs 88-74. With the victory the Knights improve to 17-12 on the season, 9-3 in Region XXI and 2-2 in Division II Region XXI regular season play. The Knights will face Dean College in the Division II Region XXI Championship game Saturday February 27th at 2:00pm at Dean. The Knights led The Bulldogs from wire-to-wire taking a 42-35 lead into halftime and extending their lead in the second half to cruise to the 88-74 victory. Leading the way for the Knight was Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) scoring a game-high and career-high 26 points with six assists and five rebounds and his backcourt mate Mike Rivera (Boston, MA) added 20 points including shooting 6-10 from the 3-point arc. Also having a big game for the Knights was Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) scoring 17 points with eight rebounds, Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) added 11 points, five rebounds and two assists, and TJ McKiver (New Haven ,CT), who started for an injured Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) led the Knights on the boards ripping down 13 rebounds adding six points and five assists. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the big Knights’ victory “One of our better performances of the season. It is a pleasure to watch the guys come together as they have. They are fun to coach. Warwick, R.I. – February 17, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Groton, CT to play the Pointers of UConn-Avery Point in a Region XXI showdown. The Knights cruised past the Pointers 121-74. With the victory the Knights improve to 16-12 on the season and 8-3 in Region XXI play. The Knights took control of the game from the opening tip going into halftime leading 62-36 the second half was much of the same as the knights cruised to the 121-74 victory. Leading the way for the Knights was sophomore Tri-Captain Jason Collier (Killingly, CT) who got his first career start and scored a game-high 23 points including a perfect 7-7 from 3-pointland and 8-9 overall shooting on the evening with two assists and two steals followed by Tri-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) who dished-out a career-high 19 assists, the second highest total in CCRI history (Abdul Abdullah had 27 in 1991) adding four points, six rebounds and three steals. Also having a great game for the Knights was Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) charting his third consecutive double-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds while adding five assists and three blocked shots and Tri-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) also had a double-double scoring 20 points with 10 rebounds. Rounding out the Knights’ offensive attack was Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) scoring 14 points with nine rebounds and Mike Juarez (Cranston, RI) added 11 points and nine rebounds. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the victory “Nice team victory with all 10 healthy bodies scoring points. Hopefully this will prove to be a good tune-up for our divisional game with Dean College on Thursday. We seem to be peaking at just the right time.” The Knights’ next game will be Thursday at 8:00pm when travel to Franklin, MA to play Region XXI rival Dean College.

Warwick, R.I. – February 15, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Lady Seahawks of Briarcliffe College from Bethpage, NY. The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Seahawks 73-43. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 11-15 on the season. The Lady Knights were in a dogfight in the first half going in tied 25-25. However, some defensive adjustments by coach Monagle and tremendous defensive intensity from the Lady Knights helped them outscore the Lady Seahawks 48-18 in the second half to cruise to the 30 point victory. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Cassie Novicky (New Milford, CT) scoring a career-high 28 points, including six three pointers, just one 3-pointer shy of the CCRI women’s basketball record of seven 3-pointers which she set December 31st at Broward College (tied the Claudia DeFaria 1/12/92) adding seven steals, six rebounds and four assists followed by Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) who scored 12 points with six rebounds and four assists. Also helping the Lady Knights to victory was Captain Erica Pisaturo (Smithfield, RI) scoring 11 points with four rebounds and two assists and Kaitlyn Rachiele (Scituate, RI) played great defense while adding four points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Head Coach Kevin Monagle commented after the big victory “Great team second half. Many of us decided that we were going to play for each other, and not worry about other agendas. Certainly Cassie’s stats clearly stand out, but it is what Kate Rachiele and Alexis Smith or Alysa O’Neill that quietly change the momentum of this game. We were not afraid to share the ball, and find the girl who could help us win. Now we build and get ready for Dean.” The Lady Knights next game will be Thursday when they will travel to Franklin, MA to play Region XXI rival Dean College at 6:00pm.

Lady Knights overtaken by Orange County CC 62-47

Warwick, R.I. – February 15, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Middletown, NY to take on the Colts of Orange County Community College. The Lady Knights lost 62-47. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 10-15 on the season. This was a very tough game as the Lady Knights had not played a game in nearly two weeks and had been battling injuries which led to them not playing their best game. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) scoring eight points with 12 rebounds, two assists and four steals, Cassie Novicky (New Milford, CT) also scored eight points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals and Noel Bullock (Greenbelt, MD) added eight points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Head Coach Kevin Monagle commented after the loss “Disappointing loss today. We were unable to get off the bus and play well. Although we battled to get the deficit to one point with about seven minutes to go, we were unable to get over the hump and finish out the game. You need to play well in order to win on the road. Playing OK for short periods of time does not equate to victory. Another great challenge tomorrow back at home.” The Lady Knights will host the Lady Seahawks of Briarcliffe College Sunday at 1:00pm.

Patch’s 3-pointer caps Knights’ 76-71 comeback over Mass Bay CC!

Warwick, R.I. – February 14, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted nationally ranked (NJCAA DII poll) Buccaneers of Mass Bay Community College on Saturday afternoon. The Knights defeated the Buccaneers 76-71. With the victory the Knights improve to 15-12 on the season and 7-3 in Region XXI play. The Knights led 39-31 at the half and by as many as 10 points in the second half. However, the Knights found themselves trailing 66-60 with just 3:30 left. The Knights trailed 70-69 with 40.1 seconds left after two free throws by Mass Bay’s Mikhail Rubin but the Knights got their only 3-pointer of the game by Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) with 25.2 second left giving them a 73-71 lead. Mass Bay had a chance to tie the next time down the floor but Isaac Jenkins missed two free-throws, three free throws by Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) iced the game down the stretch giving them the 76-71 victory. Leading the way for the Knights was Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) with a monster double-double scoring a game-high 22 points ripping down 17 rebounds and adding four blocked shots followed by Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) who ran the Knights offense flawlessly also charting a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists while adding six rebound and three steals. Also playing well was Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) scoring 18 points with six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots and Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) added nine points, including the game-winner, adding six rebounds. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the dramatic comeback “It was great to see us execute the special situations today. We have been practicing them daily and today it paid off. It was rewarding to see everyone contributing, improving and sharing in this team victory.” The Knights next game will be Thursday when they will travel to Franklin, MA to play Region XXI rival Dean College at 8:00pm.

Norris breaks two more records at BU Valentine’s Day Invitational!

Warwick, R.I. – February 14, 2010: The CCRI Indoor track team traveled to Boston University to compete in the 2010 Boston University Valentine’s Day Invitational. The knights were led by Blest Norris (Pawtucket, RI) who broke two of his own school records. Norris placed sixth in the 55m dash in a strong field of sprinters breaking his own school record in the event running a time of 6.49 seconds. Blest came back in the 200m dash running a record time of 22.26 seconds which was good enough for 28th place. Also competing for the Knights was Brendon Dohoney (Warwick, RI) who placed 201st in the mile in a time of 5:15.94. Ashley Noons (North Dighton, MA) placed 17th in the shot put with a throw of 36’ 3.4” and 38th in the weight throw with a toss of 35’ 2.4”. Chelsey Sarachick (Warwick, RI) placed 136th in the 400m with a time of 1:10.12 and Jenelle Piche (Coventry, RI) placed 164th in the 800m in a personal-best time of 3:01.59. The Knights’ next meet will be the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships March 5th and 6th at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.

CCRI Club Volleyball goes 3-1 in CCRI Division II Invitational to improve to 4-3!

Warwick, R.I. – February 14, 2010: The CCRI Men’s club Volleyball team hosted the CCRI Division II Central tournament on the CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln on Saturday. The Knights were out to prove themselves on their home court. The Knights came out swinging with decisive wins over Holy Cross 25-18 and 25-20, Stonehill College 25-22 and 25-14, and Assumption College 25-21 and 25-17. Their last match of the day was against the reigning Division II club volleyball champions Worcester Polytechnic Institute which they lost in a hard-fought battle 20-25 and 13-25. The Knights are now 4-3 on the season with one last inter-divisional tournament at Bates University on February 28th. Head Coach Anne-Marie Balboni commented after the tournament “This season is very short and this ‘first team’ is incredibility coachable. They apply new skills learned in practice immediately during the game and that talent is what will get us closer to the championships.”

Burns and Knights’ defense lead to 78-55 victory over Massasoit CC!

Warwick, R.I. – February 12, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted Region XXI divisional rival Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA on Thursday night. The Knights defeated the Warriors 78-55. With the victory the Knights improve to 14-12 on the season and 6-3 in Region XXI play. The victory also secures a spot in the Region XXI Championship game against No.1 seed Dean College at Dean College the Saturday February 27th at 2:00pm. The Knights took control of the game from the opening tip and never looked back as they took a 35-20 lead into halftime. They extended their lead to 30 points in the second half and cruised to a 78-55 victory. Knights’ Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) led the way with a double-double scoring a game-high 25 points with 10 rebounds while adding five assists followed by sophomore center Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) who also charted a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds while setting the early defensive tone with four blocked shots and adding four assists. Also contributing greatly to the Knights’ victory were Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) with eight points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, and three steals and Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) added 10 points and eight rebounds. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the game “The Sophomores are truly leading us down the stretch. The team is coming together as one and playing their best ball at just the right time.” The Knights next game will be this Saturday when they will host Region XXI opponent Mass Bay Community College at 2:00pm.

CCRI Club Volleyball team beats Clark but falls to Bryant and Assumption at Central Tourney

Warwick, R.I. – February 8, 2010: The CCRI Knights men's club volleyball team competed in their first matches as a club program at CCRI. They began by traveling to Assumption College to play in the Division II Central Club Tournament on Saturday. The Knights defeated Clark University 25-11 and 25-19 but later lost to Bryant University 25-23, 10-25 and 6-15 then to Coast Guard 23-25 and 28-30. With the win and losses the Knights begin their club program with a 1-2 record. After the game Head Coach Anne-Marie Balboni commented “Going into this tournament we had no idea the level of competition. The competition is quite high and the four year schools have very experienced older players taking advance of the ‘six years to play’ rule. We did very well and the commissioner of the tournament made a point in telling me how impressed he was with the level of play from CCRI.”

Warwick, R.I. – February 8, 2010: The CCRI indoor track team traveled to Northampton, MA to compete in the 2010 Tartan Invitational. CCRI had two shining stars: Ashley Noons (North Dighton, MA) in the throwing events and sprinter Blest Norris (Pawtucket, RI). Noons became the first CCRI Track and Field athlete to qualify for the NJCAA Indoor Championship with a first place finish and a CCRI record-setting toss of 39 feet 6.8 inches in the shot put, breaking the record of Jasmine Jennings which was 39’5” set in February of 2005. Noons came back to place eighth in the weight throw with a season best effort of 39’2.1”, to score all 11 of the Lady Knight’s on the day. Also running well for the Knight’s was Chelsey Sarachick (Warwick, RI) running season best times in the 200m in 30.74 and in the 400m 1:09.84. Chelsey later placed 11th in the long jump with a distance of 14” 3.7”. Janelle Piche (Coventry, RI) ran a personal best in the mile run in 6:52.56 good for 28th place then placed 13th in the 800m in a time of 3:10.95.

For the men Blest Norris had a busy day for the Knight’s squad and like Noons, Norris scored all 18 points for the Knight’s. Blest won the 200m dash in his second best time of the season 22.97 seconds. He then placed a solid third in the 55m dash with a time of 6.60 seconds followed by a season-best time of 52.56 in the 400m which was good for seventh place in the race. Brenden Dohoney (Warwick, RI) ran well placing 27th in the 800m in 2:27.28 and 16th in the mile in 5:11.38. His teammate Robert Brothers (Cranston, RI) placed right after him in the 800m with a time of 2:29.19.

Knights lose heartbreaker to Globe Institute 62-59

Warwick, R.I. – February 8, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted the Knights of Globe Institute from New York, NY on Saturday. The CCRI Knights lost to the Knights of Globe Institute 62-59. With the loss the Knights fall to 13-12 on the season. CCRI led most of the first half and took a 27-26 lead into halftime. However, the Knights had more turnovers (20) than assists (18) which led to a frustrating game for CCRI as Globe was able to outscore CCRI down the stretch giving them the 62-59 victory. Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) led CCRI with 22 points, six rebounds and five steals followed by Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) added 10 points and seven rebounds. Also playing well was Matt Chiccarelli (North Smithfield, RI) who scored eight points and seven rebounds and the backcourt tandem of Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) and Mike Rivera (Boston, MA) combined for 11 points and 11 assists. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the game “Frustrating game as we beat ourselves. Turnovers, a technical foul, and a lack of cohesiveness all led to losing this very winnable game. On a positive note we have won four of our last six and we know what it takes to be successful. I am confident our young men will bounce back next game.” The Knights’ next game will be this Thursday at 7:00pm when they host the Warriors of Massasoit Community College in a pivotal Region XXI showdown.

Balanced Knights’ attack springs 75-55 victory over Springfield Tech!

Warwick, R.I. – February 4, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Springfield, MA to play Region XXI combatant Rams of Springfield Technical Community College. The Knights defeated the Rams 75-55. With the victory the Knights improve to13-11 on the season and 5-3 in Region XXI play. The Knights and Rams battled closely in the first half with the Knights going into the break with a 34-28 lead. In the second half the Knights utilized various zone defenses to frustrate the Rams and keep them out of rhythm as they cruised to a 75-55 victory. Leading the way for the Knights was Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) charting a strong double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds while adding two blocked shots followed by Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) who just missed a double-double scoring nine points while dishing out a game-high 12 assists. Also having a strong game for the Knights was Mike Rivera (Boston, MA) scoring 17 points including shooting 5-7 from behind the 3-point arc adding three assists and four steals and Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) added eight points while pulling down 14 rebounds with three assists. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the victory “With Pat Sturdahl and TJ McKiver out of the line-up it was an excellent opportunity for other players to step up and Esai Touze, Apollos Wade and Mike Rivera did that for us tonight. We preach balance every day in practice and it is nice to see the guys answer the challenge. Our goal is to get a little better each practice and each game.” The Knights next game will be this Saturday when they will face the division I Knights from Globe Institute of Technology at 2:00pm.

Lady Knights bring down Briarcliffe College 62-56!

Warwick, R.I. – February 1, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to West Hempstead, NY to play the Lady Seahawks of Briarcliffe College. The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Seahawks 62-56. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 10-14 on the season. The Lady Knights played much better on Sunday jumping out to a quick lead and going into halftime leading 35-23. The Lady Knights held off the Lady Seahawks down the stretch to secure the hard fought road victory. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Captain Erica Pisaturo (Smithfield, RI) scoring a game-high 21 pts with five rebounds, two assists and three blocks followed by Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) scoring nine points with 16 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Also playing well were Teighlor Clare-Kearney (Manchester, CT) with 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals and Noel Bullock (Greenbelt, MD) added eight points, six rebounds and six assists. Head Coach Kevin Monagle commented after the game "Great team win with many players doing what they can do to help us win. Certainly having Erica Pisaturo playing again (missed two straight games) helps, but Kate Rachiele's two 3-pointers versus their zone, and Rajvi Jarvis’ control of the boards puts us in a better position to win. This was also Noel Bullock's best game in a long time. She was confident in her decisions, and the rest of the team followed." The Lady Knights’ next game will be Saturday the sixth when they travel to New Rochelle, NY to play Monroe College at 12noon.

Knights surge past Suffolk County CC 79-64!

Warwick, R.I. – February 16, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Brentwood, NY to play the Longhorns of Suffolk County CC. The Knights defeated the Longhorns 79-64. With the victory the Knights improve to 12-11 on the season. The Knights trailed early 25-16 but rallied to close the half out well with a 38-34 lead. The Knights used varying full court pressure to hassle the Longhorns and get easy baskets. Five Knights scored in double-figures led by Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) with 19 points and nine rebounds followed by Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) charted his second straight double-double scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds adding five assists and Tyler Patch (Seekonk, MA) scored 14 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Also playing well in the Knights’ victory was Esaie Touze (Providence, RI) scoring 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Mike Rivera (Boston, MA) added 12 points and five assists. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the victory “Solid road victory following Saturday’s loss. We need to continue reaching for our goal to improve little by little each day.” The Knights next game will be Wednesday when they travel to Springfield, MA to play Springfield Technical Community College at 7:00pm.

Knights knocked off by No. 10 ranked Nassau County CC 74-64!

Warwick, R.I. – February 1, 2010: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team traveled to Garden City, NJ to play the No. 10 ranked (NJCAA DIII poll) Lions of Nassau County CC. The Knights lost to the Lions 74-64. With the loss the Knights fall to 11-11 on the season. The Knights led at the half 32-30 but faltered down the stretch. Between playing on the road against a very tough nationally ranked team and foul trouble the Knights could not overcome the Lions losing 74-64. Leading the way for the Knights was Co-Captain Pat Sturdahl (Exeter, RI) scoring a game-high 23 points with two steals followed by his back court mate and Co-Captain Apollos Wade (Taunton, MA) who charted a double-double scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds, and Co-Captain Colin Burns (Chepachet, RI) added 10 points. Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the game “We only played at 55-60% of our ability today and that is not enough against a tough team like Nassau County CC we hope to bounce back tomorrow at Suffolk County CC.” The Knights travel to Brentwood, NY to play Suffolk County CC Sunday at 2:00pm.

Lady Knights nixed by Nassau County CC 62-58

Warwick, R.I. – February 1, 2010: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Garden City, NJ to play Nassau County Community College. The Lady Knights lost to the Lions 62-58. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 9-14 on the season. The Lady Knights were battling multiple injuries and illness or players with only eight healthy players. Though shorthanded they battled to the best of their ability trailing 38-29 at halftime. They pulled together to make the game close but could not pull out the victory losing 62-58. The Lady Knights were led by Teighlor Clare-Kearney (Manchester, CT) who scored 15 points, five rebounds with four assists, three steals and one block, Rajvi Jarvis (Stratford, CT) scored nine points with 12 rebounds. Also playing well was Ashley Fry (South Kingstown, RI) with 11 pts and Alexis Smith (Wakefield, RI) added nine points on three 3-pointers adding two steals. The Lady Knights will play Briarcliffe College Sunday at 1:00pm.

Norris sets two CCRI records and qualifies for Nationals at BU Terrier Invitational!

Warwick, R.I. – February1, 2010: A select few of the CCRI Track team participated in the Boston University Terrier Invitational in Boston, MA over the weekend. The Knights were led by Blest Norris (Pawtucket, RI) who placed sixth in the finals of the 55m dash with a time of 6.55 seconds. However, Norris won his heat in the prelims posting the fifth fastest time of the day tying his CCRI school record in the process 6.50 seconds. Blest wasn’t done there he came back to win his heat in the 200m dash with a time of 22.47 breaking his own school record set at the 2009 NJCAA National championship.

For the Lady Knights Ashley Noons (North Dighton, MA) placed fourth in her flight of the shot put with a 10.61m throw. This placed her 29th overall in the shot put event. Noons also placed fourth in her second event the weight throw with a throw of 10.68m good for 36th place. In addition, Chelsey Sarachick (Warwick, RI) won her heat in the 400m run with a time of 1 minute 11.06 seconds which was her season best placing her 43rd overall.
