Gregg Cornell:

1989 Hall of Fame Inductee

Head coach Gregg Cornell is in his 14th season as the head coach of the cross country program. An All-New England cross country runner at CCRI, he continued to blossom later at Bridgewater State College, where he was a Division III All-American in 1986. His success carried over to marathons, becoming one of the state’s best long-distance runners by capturing the prestigious Ocean State Marathon in 1991 and the Cape Cod Marathon in 1995.

Gregg is still recognized as one of the best runners in Community College of Rhode Island History. He received special recognition in 1989 being selected into the CCRI Athletic Hall of Fame. His overall competitiveness, knowledge and teaching skills have combined to produce several standout athletes. 

 

Scott Bayha
Scott Bayha comes to CCRI with 14 years of coaching experience in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL). Most recently he coached at Warwick Veterans High School where he served as the boys’ cross country coach from 2000 to 2009 and as the boys’ outdoor track coach from 1999-2008. During his tenure at Warwick Vets, Bayha led the Hurricanes track team to the RIIL Class B state championship in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The team was the RIIL Class B runner-up in 2000 and 2001 and the state championship runner-up in 2004. Bayha has coached many high school runners that have gone on to compete at Division I colleges, including Auburn, Penn State, University of Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. In addition, he has coached 11 student-athletes who competed for CCRI.

 

Bob Bayha
Bob Bayha returns to CCRI as assistant coach of the track team after a three-year hiatus. His many years of coaching experience include stints at St. Mary’s Academy Bay View, East Providence High School and Cumberland High School. Bayha has been inducted into the Rhode Island Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame, the Rhode Island Track Coaches Hall of Fame and the Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
