Mark Zellers was born in Two Harbors, Minnesota. After an unremarkable youth he blundered into the University of Wisconsin Superior pot shop and was inspired by the people and work he encountered there. He traveled around the area meeting and working with craftspeople and artists who shared the humble and extraordinary labor of making pots. Motivated by the clay and guided by others’ thoughtful advice, he built up his studio practice. Later in graduate school at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, he met more inspiring people, including his wife and fellow ceramist. He currently makes pots in Pascoag, Rhode Island and teaches at the Community College of Rhode Island.
