Painting
ARTS 2010 & ARTS 2020
Painting I - ARTS 2010
Painting 1 is an introduction to the painting process through an investigation of theories, materials and techniques. Historical and contemporary aesthetic issues are explored through studio assignments, slide lectures, discussions, critiques and museum/gallery visits.
Prerequisite:
- Drawing I (ARTS 1010) is required or the permission of the instructor.
- Color (ARTS 1020) is not required as a prerequisite but strongly recommended.
Studio: 4 hours
Painting II - ARTS 2020
The emphasis will be on producing a series of paintings exhibiting a developing individual and personal concept and style. Rather than the survey approach of Painting I, Painting 2 will require the student to focus on their own self-expression using paint. The student will continue to explore historical schools of painting and current movements while experimenting with new techniques to achieve this means.
Painting 1 & 2 meet concurrently so the students can participate in critiques and discussions of both groups. Students in Painting II are expected to make regular visits to galleries and museums.
Prerequisite:
- Painting I ( ARTS 2010 ) or permission of the instructor.
- Color ( ARTS 1020 ) is not required as a prerequisite but strongly recommended.
Studio: 4 hours
