The CCRI community is made up of rich and vibrant people of diverse backgrounds, and nearly 40 percent of our 15,000-plus students have multicultural and ethnic heritage. CCRI's Alumni Association understands the need for collective and shared voices from our diverse communities and the role they play in enriching connections, addressing common concerns and strengthening our network.
In early 2016, CCRI's Alumni Association, in concert with the college's vision and
mission, steered its efforts toward developing and increasing affinity-based programming
to help celebrate diversity and promote inclusion. One major initiative is to reconnect
and re-engage diverse alumni through targeted programming and activities. With support
from alumni leaders and staff partners, the Alumni Diversity Group held its first
meeting in May, during which members developed this working purpose/mission statement:
"The CCRI Alumni Diversity Group was created to engage and serve the diverse community of CCRI alumni. The Alumni Diversity Group will engage the CCRI diverse alumni community, provide service and outreach to diverse communities, provide mentoring and networking opportunities and provide speakers and presentations to students at CCRI."
In partnership with the Office of Institutional Equity, the group hopes to serve as a vital diversity and inclusion resource to alumni and the college. To advance this effort, the Alumni Association's Executive Board has approved additional funding to provide programming support to the Alumni Diversity Group and other affinity-based programs.
