All College Week

President Di PasqualeA thank-you from President Di Pasquale

I would like to thank all of the students, staff and faculty who worked to make our first-ever All College Week: A celebration of excellence, innovation and community a great success. Response to the week exceeded even our high expectations, and each of the week’s events was well attended.

Some 400 people watched Solomon A. Solomon and Charles E. Sullivan as they were inducted into the CCRI Hall of Fame in Newport on Sunday, March 16.

The next night, Chief Justice Frank Williams presented a fascinating look at Abraham Lincoln and leadership to a crowd of 135 people from the college community and the public.

We were especially pleased that registration for our Community Service Day, which we launched during inauguration week last year, surpassed last year’s participation. Nearly 200 students, staff and faculty members gave their time to support the hungry, the homeless, the developmentally disabled, grieving children and other worthy causes on Tuesday. I visited several of the sites that day and witnessed the impact our day of service had on these community agencies.

That night, our theatre and music departments entertained 130 members of the college community and the public during a celebration of the arts. The night included music from jazz to opera and a number of theatrical monologues and scenes. Our students truly shined that night.

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed was our keynote speaker at our 6th annual Professional Development Day on Wednesday. Some 540 of our faculty and staff took part in the day’s events, including my annual State of the College address, workshops, an expo and a town meeting with some of the college’s top administrators.

We celebrated the college’s diversity on Thursday with a spirited event at our Providence campus. A crowd of 300 gathered to hear students, faculty and staff members read poems in their native languages and their English translations. After the reading, attendees were treated to an international luncheon featuring Asian, Italian and Spanish food.

Everyone was an athlete on Friday for the “Battle of the Athletes” at the Lincoln campus. Some 120 members of the college community battled it out for ribbons and bragging rights in several events including basketball, dodge ball, a home run derby and a challenging obstacle course. Participants were treated to a cookout lunch afterward.

This truly was a week to celebrate the breadth of experience one can see at CCRI. Again, thank you for your part in making this week such a great success!
