Welcome to Access Tutoring!

How tutoring works....

Students in Access are offered one-on-one tutoring in all contents areas subject to the availability of tutors. To request tutoring, a student must meet with his/her Access counselor to complete the Tutor Request Form, which is forwarded to the Tutor Coordinator. The Coordinator then matches the students with a tutor whose skills and schedule best meet the students’ needs.

Where tutoring takes place...

Tutors and students meet on all three campuses in several of the facilities such as the library, cafeteria, or in assigned classrooms at a time arranged between tutor and student.

Who the Access tutors are...

Unlike other programs Access does not use peer tutors from within CCRI but rather paraprofessional staff. Tutors come from varied backgrounds, including college students and retirees. Each brings an in-depth knowledge of the subject area, study skills and time management as well as unique strengths and experiences that enhance students’ education.

Incoming tutors are given an orientation based on the College Reading and Learning Association’s guidelines which earns them the Level 1 - Regular certificate. Senior long-term tutors have completed the CRLA Advanced - Level 3 training in areas such as learning styles, working with adult learners, and working with students with disabilities.
