Professor Emeritus Status for CCRI Retired Faculty
The Community College of Rhode Island shall grant Emeritus Status to
retired CCRI
faculty who meet the qualifications agreed upon by the CCRI Emeritus
Review Board and
the President’s Council. Emeritus Status ensures a continuing
relationship between retired
faculty and the college and recognizes their years of service to CCRI.
Emeritus faculty
benefit from selected privileges concurrent with this honor and, in
return, understand their
ongoing responsibility to support the College in appropriate and
reasonable ways.
Qualifying retired faculty must have :
- Completed a minimum of twenty years of service at CCRI
- Achieved the level of full professor
- Made a significant contribution to the College beyond their contractual obligation
Emeritus faculty privileges include:
- Use of the title, Professor Emeritus
- Use of the LRC services
- Use of athletic facilities
- Use of faculty parking lot
- Receipt of news items from the college
- Participation in Commencement Ceremonies
Emeritus faculty may provide support to the College through :
- Student mentoring
- Fundraising
- Consulting
- Guest Lecturing
- Serving on advisory committees
- Planning events
- General help for administrative staff
- Other volunteer activities as appropriate
- Financial support to the CCRI Foundation
Qualified retired faculty must submit their application and
supporting documentation to the
Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs for review by the
Emeritus Review Board which
will consist of three members from CCRIRO and the Vice President of
Academic Affairs, Director
of Personnel and the President of the Faculty Union (or their
designees). The Board will meet
annually in December.
Applications approved by the Emeritus Review Board will be forwarded
to the President for
review by the President's Council for final approval. Letters of
congratulations will be signed
and sent to the recipients of the Emeritus Status by the President of
CCRI.
