Introduction

The concept of tutoring has a long and honored tradition. It has been the vehicle by which students are given the opportunity to increase their academic performance by working with an individual who is more knowledgeable about the subject matter, outside of the formal classroom structure. Our program provides trained and carefully selected tutors whoa re eager to assist students to achieve their learning goals and ultimately create a successful educational experience at CCRI. The Peer Tutor Program has been certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). All tutors in the Peer Tutor Program are eligible to earn CRLA certifications as Regular/Level 1 tutors. Certification is endorsed by the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE).  Thus, we encourage all of our tutors to earn CRLA certification, as it will further their professional development and contribute to their resume for a job or transfer to a four-year institution.

All of our support services in the Success Centers encourage students to become independent learners and thinkers by fostering confidence and self-reliance - essential qualities in the quest for a career and/or a degree in higher education. These services are offered to enhance and support student learning and are not a substitute for the classroom experience. We encourage independence through the use of resources at the Success Centers and other academic support services at CCRI.
