Linking to Subscription Databases and Articles within the Databases |
Linking to a Subscription DatabaseYoull find links to the librarys subscription databases from the CCRI Library Home page (http://www.ccri.edu/library/index.html) by clicking on the link to Periodical Databases (http://www.ccri.edu/lerc/operindx.htm) or Other Electronic Resources (http://www.ccri.edu/lerc/otheres.htm). You can place a link from your Faculty Web site, WebCT site, or Pipeline Course Home page to the Library Web site. Or, you may want to link directly to a subscription database. If you link directly, copy the database Web address (from the Periodical Databases or Other Electronic Resources page) that will allow off-campus as well as on-campus users into the database. This is an address that validates users by first going to the HELIN proxy server (youll see 0-helin.uri.edu within the address). For example, the Web address to use to link to Academic Search Premier is: http://0-search.ebscohost.com.helin.uri.edu/login.asp?profile=acad When you click on this link from on-campus, you will directly enter the database. However, when you click on this link from off-campus,
you will be prompted for your name and library barcode. You and your
students will need valid CCRI Library cards
to access subscription databases from off-campus.
Please contact a CCRI Reference Librarian if you need more assistance. Visit the Library Circulation Desk to activate or update your card.
Linking to an Article from a Subscription DatabaseYou can place links from your own Web pages to articles in the EBSCOhost databases (e.g., Academic Search Premier, CINAHL, and PsycINFO) by following these steps: 1. Enter the database where the article is located. As you will want your students to access the article from off- as well as on-campus, enter the database using the off-campus link (even if you are on-campus). 2. Search for the article. 3. From the Search Results list, click on the title of the article. 4. Scroll down the citation to the Persistent Link to the article. 5. Copy and paste the Persistent Link on to your Web page. The persistent link will look similar to: http://0-search.ebscohost.com.helin.uri.edu:80/direct.asp?an=10213433&db=aph&tg=AN You and your students will need valid CCRI Library cards to access the articles from off-campus.
