CCRI Cross Country and Men’s Soccer Regular Season
Review
Cross Country
The CCRI Men’s Cross Country Team is currently ranked #3
in the Country by the NJCAA and the Cross Country Coaches Association. The
Knights are led by Captain Chris Farrell (Lincoln, RI) who placed third in
the team’s last meet versus Army and Navy. The team as a whole has shown
great signs of improvement at every meet Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) ran
three minutes faster than he had run all season. In addition the team has
been helped by other runners like Joe Hannon (Gloucester, RI), Mark Langlois
(Warwick, RI), Ron Guenard (Cumberland, RI), Bryan Galvin (Seekonk, MA),
Luis Rodriguez (Lincoln, RI), and Nick Weinhofer (New Foundland, Canada),
all of whom should run well at the Districts in November.
On the women’s side they struggled to get enough runners
early in the season but now have a full team. All year they have been led by
Captain Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton, MA) who was National runner of the week
10/10-10/16/05. Nicholas should run well at Districts early in November and
be ranked in the top five in the Championships in later November. She is
joined by Bridget Bettencourt (Lincoln, RI), Amanda Berthod (Burrillville,
RI), Lani Pollack (Deland, FL), and Mary Oyekoya (Woonsocket, RI) all of
whom should run well at the Districts.
Both teams are gearing-up for the Northeast District Meet
Saturday November 5th at Suffolk CC in New York.
Men’s Soccer
The CCRI Men’s Soccer team ended the season 8-6-2 just
falling short of making the Region XXI Tournament due to the fact that Globe
Institute had a below .500 record which meant there would only be a playoff
between the top two teams unfortunately CCRI was third. The Knights played
hard every game but had a difficult time scoring the first half of the
season and had some injuries late in the season but despite that the Knights
were able to maintain a winning record. Offensively the Knights were led by
Co-captain Nick Medeiros (West Warwick, RI) who had four goals and two
assists for ten points on the season, Todd Leveillee (North Scituate, RI)
who had four goals and one assist for nine points on the season, while both
Jerry Rico (Cranston, RI) and Daniel Ortiz (East Providence, RI) both had
three goals and two assists for eight points on the season. Defensively
goalkeeper Sidney Boaventura (Pawtucket, RI) had 83 saves in 1050 minutes of
play and Kevin Dos Santos (Cumberland, RI) had 35 saves in 470 minutes of
play sharing time in the net for the Knights.
2005 Knights Volleyball Season Highlighted by School
Record with 31 wins
The CCRI Knights Volleyball Team set a new school record
for wins with 31 in the 2005 season. With their win on October 27th
over Navy Prep was their 31st of the year setting a new school
record previously held by the 1993 Volleyball team back when CCRI played in
Division III. Head Coach Ray Deangelis and Assistant Coaches Laurie Clark
and John Chin have done a tremendous job developing the raw talent of their
players to play as a team and "U-Knight" as one. Currently the Team has six
players ranked in statistical categories nationally (see below), but it is
their individual sacrifices to play as a team that separates this team from
others in the past. There are two distinct instances that illustrate this
team first attitude in both of their 30th and 31st
wins of the season the Knights played as a team as many of the starters
sacrificed playing time and their own personal statistics to ensure that
every player got a chance to participate in these landmark victories.
Victories they will all remember for the rest of their lives.
The Knights now look forward to the District Tournament
to be played at Genesee CC November 5th and 6th
against Region IXX champ Lackawanna CC and the winner of the Region III
match-up between Genesee CC and Mercyhurst CC. The teams will play in a
round robin on Saturday the third seed goes home while the top two will
battle to see which team will go on to the Nationals. Below are the current
National statistical leaders from The CCRI Knights as of October 31st.

The 4th ranked Knights are coming of an

percentage (87.5%) since their National Championship year in 2002. Their
only losses coming at then #1 ranked Young Harris the second game of the
season 2-1 and then at #3 ranked Monroe CC 2-1 the sixth game of the season.
Their biggest win coming against then ranked #6 CCBC Catonsville October 1st
on The Knights home field 2-1 a team that went on to beat Monroe CC later in
October. The Knight started the season ranked #10 and since then they have
steadily moved up to #4. Since the Knights loss to Monroe CC the Knights
have been on a remarkable ten game winning streak. During their amazing 10
game winning streak they have given-up only two goals. In fact the Knights
have only given-up six goals the entire season, outscoring their opponents
by a whopping 86 to 6.
The Knights 2005 regular season is filled with
statistical highlights including Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) who is the
Nation’s 14th ranked scorer with 21 goals and 10 assists for a
total of 52 points, Jami Elliott (Cumberland, RI) who is the Nation’s 24th
ranked scorer with 18 goals and seven assists for 43 total points, and Anne
Kineke (East Greenwich, RI) who is currently the Nations 9th

Knights Volleyball Wins Record Setting #31 Victory
over Naval Prep to Finish Regular Season 31-14
The CCRI Knights Women’s Volleyball Team set another
school record yesterday with a thrilling three game sweep of Naval Prep
30-23, 30-23 and 30-24 to finish the regular season 31-14. Every game was
extremely close even more than the scores would indicate as the Knights
avenged a loss from earlier in the season to Naval Prep, however in that
loss the knights were without Outside Hitters Kimiyo Garcia (East
Providence, RI) and Stephanie Maxwell (Woonsocket, RI), while Libero Jasmine
Bonanca (Swansea, MA) was hurt during the match. This time the Knights were
fully loaded and that seemed to be the difference.
Each game was very closely contested as every time the
Knights went ahead in a game Naval Prep would try trick plays to get
themselves back in it but the Knights sniffed out those plays, because they
had worked on defending those plays earlier in the week at practice. The
play of the match was turned in the first game as Naval prep spiked a ball
that was dug by Bonanca who dove keeping the ball alive but only about a
foot off the floor traveling about 50 MPH then was kicked off the back of
the leg of a sprawling Abby Hummel (Warwick, RI) up in the air before it was
tapped over the net keep the point alive by Kayla Plante (Woonsocket, RI).
Head Coach Ray Deangelis said "that was definitely a momentum shifter"
The Knights were led by April Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI)
who had two blocks, 24 kills and three aces, Abby Hummel (Warwick, RI) who
had two blocks, six kills, two aces, three digs and 14 assists, and ill
Kimiyo Garcia (East Providence, RI) was still able to contribute eight
blocks and five kills, and Libero Jasmine Bonanca (Swansea, MA) who had 26
digs. As one game official said after the match "your Libero decided not to
let a ball hit the floor" as he though that was the key to the tremendous
victory.
Coach Deangelis said "this is the best team we have
beaten all year, if we can play this way at the Districts we’re going to
Nationals"
The Knights now look forward to the District Tournament
to be played at Genesee CC November 5th and 6th
against Region IXX champ Lackawanna CC and the winner of the Region III
match-up between Genesee CC and Mercyhurst CC. The teams will play in a
round robin on Saturday the third seed goes home while the top two will
battle to see which team will go on to the Nationals. The Knights players
will have the opportunity to give both Head Coach Deangelis and Assistant
Coach Laurie Clark the ultimate birthday present with a birth in the
Nationals, coincidentally both of their birthdays fall on November 6th.
Go Knights!!!

CCRI Knights Volleyball Team Wins 30th Match of Season to Set New
School Record!
The CCRI Knights Women’s Volleyball Team won their 30th
match of the Season setting a new CCRI school record for wins in a season by
a volleyball team.
The Knights defeated Region XXI rival Dean College 30-11,
30-15, and 30-15 for their record setting victory. In addition to it being
their 30th of the season it was Coach Ray Deangelis’ 101st
victory as The Head coach at CCRI. There were no real statistical highlights
because coach Deangelis got everyone into the matches so they could share in
a piece of CCRI history. The victory was truly a team effort.
"I’m just thrilled for the kids they set a record that
they will be able to remember for the rest of their lives" said Coach
Deangelis after their record-setting win, as the team celebrated with a
victory meal and ice cream from Friendly’s.
The Knights have one more match versus a very tough Navy
Prep team Thursday the 27th at the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln at
7pm before they gear-up for the District Playoffs Saturday November 5th
times and location TBD.
#4 Ranked Knights Whip Warriors 4-1 to win 10th
in a Row to Finish Regular Season 14-2
The #4 nationally ranked CCRI Knights Women’s Soccer Team
defeated the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut JV 4-1 to win their 10th
in a row and finish the season 14-2. During their amazing 10 game winning
streak they have given-up only two goals. In fact the Knights have only
given-up six goals the entire season, outscoring their opponents by a
whopping 86 to 6.
The Knights were led by Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) the
Nation’s #12 ranked scorer who had a goal and an assist, Co-captain Brittney
Godbout (Cranston, RI) who scored two goals, Krystal Sousa (Fall River, MA)
who had an assist, and Tanekar Alexander (D’Abadie, Trinidad) who also had
an assist. The Knights final goal was an "own goal" by Eastern Connecticut,
The Warriors only goal was scored on a penalty kick awarded for a hand ball
in the box area.
The Knights 2005 regular season is filled with
statistical highlights including Lindsay Laurie (Warwick, RI) who is the
Nation’s 12th ranked scorer with 21 goals and 10 assists for a
total of 52 points, Jami Elliott (Cumberland, RI) who is the Nation’s 22nd
ranked scorer with 18 goals and seven assists for 43 total points, and Anne
Kineke (East Greenwich, RI) who is currently the Nations 9th
ranked Goalkeeper who has 44 saves relinquishing only six goals with a .527
goal against average in 1,025.5 minutes of play.
The Knights are gearing-up for the Northeast District
Tournament where they will probably face the top seed in Region III the
Tribunes of Monroe CC who are currently ranked #3 in the Nation. The Knight
Tribune match-up looks to be an excellent game seeing as how Monroe won
their first meeting this year at Monroe CC by the slimmest of margins 2-1
the Knights have payback on their mind. Since their last meeting, the
Knights have beaten another top ten team #5 CCBC Catonsville which beat the
Tribunes 1-0 on October 16th. The game will be played at a
location still to be determined by whoever is the top seed in Region IXX
during the weekend November 4th-6th.

CCRI Volleyball Win’s 29th Match to Tie Program Record Deangelis
gets Win #100!!!
It was an historic weekend for the CCRI Knights women’s
Volleyball Team as they won their 29th match of the season which
ties the program’s best mark in history and establishes a new record since
they have been in Division II. In addition to it being the team’s 29th
victory of the season it was Coach Ray DeAngelis’ 100th victory
of his career.
For the Weekend CCRI went 3-1 as they beat southern
Maryland 30-21, 28-30, and 17-15, beat Dean 30-4 and 30-15, fell to Genesee
30-29 and 30-25, and beat Holyoke 30-12 and 30-7 to improve their record to
29-14 on the season to tie the program best mark.
Statistical highlights from the weekend include Kimiyo
Garcia (East Providence, RI) who had 20 blocks, 23 kills, four aces, and 19
digs, Jasmine Bonanca (Swansea, MA) who had a remarkable 62 digs, April
Oberhelman (Woonsocket, RI) who had 11 blocks, 21 kills, 11 aces, 29 digs,
and 42 assists, but the stat of the weekend belongs to Co-Captain Kayla
Plante (Woonsocket, RI) who served 24 straight points in their 30-4 victory
over Region XXI rival Dean College.
In another interesting twist for the teams 29th
victory and coach’s 100th the Knights players decided along with
the coaches to let the team make their own line-up, insuring that everyone
got involved. This was a true sign of team unity as many of the Nations
statistical leaders sacrificed their stats to get everyone involved for the
coach’s milestone 100th win. They were truly U-Knighted!
The Knights look to establish a new school record for
victories when they travel to Dean College on Tuesday at 7pm.
Go Knights!!!
Knights Men’s Cross Country tops Navy and Army Prep
The CCRI Men’s Cross Country Team triumphed over Army and
Navy as the final tally was CCRI 30, Army 37, and Navy 60.
Chris Farrell (Lincoln, RI) once again led team. Hunter
Stewart (Taunton, MA) ran three minutes faster then he has all season and
helps his team win. Stewart’s race was needed because two of our top six
runners did not run Joe Hannon (Gloucester, RI) and Mark Langlois (Warwick,
RI). Stewart saved The Knights in a time of need, which goes to show how
good this team is.
National runner of the week 10/10-10/16/05 Sherilyn
Nicholas (Taunton, MA) ran a very fast 20:56 over this 5k course. Nicholas
will be ranked in the top 5 for the NJCAA Championships in November.
In a true sign of progression all but two runners ran
their best time of the season. Here’s how the Knights finished: Men’s
Placements—3rd Chris Farrell (Lincoln, RI) 27:37-4th
Brian Galvin (Seekonk, MA) 28:02—5th Luis Rodriguez (Lincoln, RI)
28:04—7th Ron Guenard (Cumberland, RI) 29:09-11th
Hunter Stewart (Taunton, MA) 30:39-21st Nick Wienhofer (New
Foundland, Canada) 34:22 Women’s Placements-- 4th Sherilyn
Nicholas (Taunton, MA) 20:56-9th Amanda Berthod (Burrillville,
RI) 28:52-10th Mary Oyekoya (Woonsocket, RI) 29:36-11th
Bridget Bettencourt (Lincoln, RI) 32:05.
The CCRI Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams are
gearing-up for the Northeast District Meet Saturday November 5th
at Suffolk CC in New York.
Knights Spank Springfield Tech 5-0 to improve record
to 8-6-2
Four different Knights scored goals in their 5-0 victory
over Springfield Tech on Saturday to improve their record to 8-6-2. The
Knights offensive explosion of five goals was their highest output of the
season.
The Knights were led by Daniel Ortiz (East Providence,
RI) who had two goals, while James Laprey (Coventry, RI), Ezekial Payne
(Warwick, RI), and Jerry Rico (Cranston, RI) also scored one goal each. In
addition Co-Captain Nick Medeiros (West Warwick, RI) had an assist.
With the win the Knights assure themselves a winning
record for the season unfortunately they needed Globe Institute to have a
winning record for the Knights to qualify for the Region XXI tournament and
that did not happen. That being said the Knights last game of the season
that was scheduled for Tuesday at 3pm versus Navy Prep has been re-scheduled
for Wednesday at 3pm weather permitting.
Elliott and Laurie Lead #5 Ranked Knights over
Capitals 5-0 to Win Ninth in a Row
Co-Captain Jami Elliott (Cumberland, RI) had two goals
scoring her 17th and 18th of the season while sophomore Lindsay Laurie
(Warwick, RI) also scored two goals her 19th and 20th of the season In
addition Tanekar Alexander (D’Abadie, Trinidad) scored on a penalty shot to
lead the Knights to a 5-0 victory over the Capitals of New Hampshire Tech
for their ninth win in a row and improve their record to 13-2 on the season.
Also contributing to the Knights victory were Brittney
Godbout (Cranston, RI), Katie Finn (Warwick, RI), and Cassie Cooney (Central
Falls, RI) who all had an assist each.
During their nine game win streak the Knights have
allowed only one goal and have recorded eight shutouts proving there
dominance and showing why they are ranked #5 in the country by the NJCAA in
Division I.
Offensively the Knights have been led by Laurie who has
20 goals, nine assists for 49 points and Elliott who has 18 goals and seven
assists for 43 points, along with Freshmen Finn with 10 goals and seven
assists for 27 points and Cooney who has eleven goals and three assists for
25 points.
Defensively the Knights have been led by the 9th ranked
Goalkeeper in the Nation Anne Kineke (East Greenwich, RI) who has six
shutouts and an impressive .46 goals against average and Freshman Amber
Cerreto (Hope RI) who has four shutouts and an impeccable .00 goals against
average.
The Knights finish their home schedule today versus
Eastern Connecticut JV at 3:30pm at the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln and their
last game of the season on the road against Yale JV on Wednesday.

with Manchester 1-1. However, the Knights surrendered the winning goal in
the second half to Andreas Blamo, who scored both MCC goals. The lone CCRI
goal was scored by Co-Captain Nick Medeiros (West Warwick, RI).
With the loss the Knights record falls to 7-6-2. The
Knights look to bounce back Saturday as the take on Springfield Tech. CC at

Knights Men’s Soccer Team edged by Bunker Hill 4-3
The CCRI Knights Men’s Soccer Team traveled to and lost a
tough one to Bunker Hill CC 4-3. In a game that The Knights expected to win
the Knights were up-ended by a tough Division III Bulldog squad from Bunker
Hill on a goal in the final two minutes of regulation. With the loss the
Knights record is now 7-5-2.
The Knights have finally started to score goals on a
consistent basis unfortunately the offense has come at the expense of
defense as is evident by the fact that in the first nine games they gave-up
eight goals and in the last five games they have given-up eight goals. The
Knights look to find balance as they head into the final stretch run of the
season leading into the post-season.
CCRI went into halftime tied with the Bulldogs 2-2. The
score was 3-3 late into the second half but Bunker Hill rallied win the last
two minutes of regulation to take the contest 4-3 to improve their record to
8-4.
The Knights were led by James Laprey (Coventry, RI) who
had a goal and an assist, Jerry Rico (Cranston, RI) who had an outstanding
header goal, Nick Mante (Central Falls, RI) who also had a goal as well as
Todd Leveillee (North Scituate, RI) and Nick Medeiros (West Warwick, RI) who

Knights Basketball Make Top 20 in Pre-season Polls
Both of the CCRI Basketball teams are ranked among the
top 20 in the NJCAA National Polls
The CCRI Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team are ranked in
the top 20 in the Pre-Season NJCAA Polls in Division II The Men are ranked
#13 while the women are ranked #19. This is not surprising, coming after a
season where for the first time both teams made their National Tournaments
in the same year.
along with 6’6" Forward Brandon Gaillard (North
Stonington, CT) and 6’4" Forward Jerome Hodge (Providence, RI). The Knights
will also get some help in the form of their two new point-guards Ray Ross
(Port Washington, NY) and Darby Brown (New London, CT). The Knights are
poised to get back to the post-season with their defense first mentality and
fast-breaking style. That is the Hallmark of Head Coach Dave Chevalier.
The CCRI Women’s Basketball team is ranked #19 which is
an excellent feat seeing as how they have no returning starters. In
addition, the one player that is returning who got significant playing time,
Shermaine Farrior (Bronx, NY) who was an all-region selection last year will
not be eligible until the second semester. However, the Knights do have
talent in the form of 6’0" Forward Odessa Williams (Stratford, CT) who did
not play much in the regular season, but she played very well playing a key
role at the National Tournament. Although the Knights do not have as much
height as they did last year, they do have much more team speed and will be
looking to push the ball and play a swarming type of defense which is the
type of game that Head Coach Cas Grygorcewicz likes to teach. Some of the
incoming freshmen that should have an impact are: Point Guards Ana Sierra
(Bronx, NY) and Lasheena Boyd (Stratford, CT), Guard Monet Johnson
(Brooklyn, NY), Forward/Center Eszence Walker (Stratford, CT), and Forward
Janay Perkins (Bronx, NY). The Knights will also get help from Australian
import Renee Buck (Ft. Gully Victoria, Australia), Forward Jenny Kinney
(Milford, NJ), and Forward Michelle Rhau (Cranston, RI), and Guard Michelle
McNamee (Cranston, RI). Once they get to play together the Knights should
give any team a run for their money.
Both CCRI Basketball teams are currently practicing and
getting to know each other and how they play. Surely there will be many more
names that will be making headlines this upcoming season.

Knights Woemn Soccer Top Mercer County 4-0 to win 8th
in a row Secure Region XXI Title
The CCRI Women’s soccer Team won their eight game in a
row and twelfth in thirteen games Sunday as they defeated Mercer County CC
4-0. The Knights have won seven of their last eight games via the shutout
and have eleven total shutouts. With the win the Knights improve their
record to 12-2 securing their 5th Region XXI Title in a row it will be the
fourth District Playoff in a row (2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005)
Currently, Lindsay Laurie (Warwick) has taken over as the
leading scorer with 18 goals and 9 assists for 45 points. She is
currently ranked 13th in the NJCAA in scoring and was voted NJCAA
Player of the week the week of 9/25-10/1/05 (also nominated this week).
Captain Jami Elliott (Cumberland) is second in scoring with 16 goals and 7
assists for 39 points, ranking her 18th in the NJCAA in scoring.
Freshman Katie Finn (Warwick) is third in scoring with 10 goals and six
assists for 26 points which ranks her 46th in the NJCAA in
scoring.
Anne Kineke (East Greenwich, RI), goalkeeper is currently
ranked 10th in the NJCAA with 5 goals against in 11 games.
She currently has 6 shutout victories. She has a .46 GAA. Anne has 41
total saves. Anne has played 935.50 total minutes. Amber Cerreto
(Hope, RI), our other goalkeeper has played in five games, not given up a
goal, and has 3 shutout victories. Amber has 4 total saves. Amber has
played 334.50 total minutes. Both keepers have split a few games in the net.
The current team’s overall GAA is .36.
One cannot overlook the team’s defenders who of course
play a big part in the team’s overall success. Sharon Barbosa (Fall
River, MA), Jessica Mullett (Woonsocket, RI), Natalie Rico, (Cranston, RI)
and Mandy McGuire and Erin Gee (both from Wakefield, RI) have all played a
major role in keeping the team’s GAA at where it is. The team has scored 77
goals and given up only five goals. The five goals given up have only been
against top five NJCAA teams.
The NJCAA poll should be interesting this week.
Monroe CC got beat 1-0 by CCBC Catonsville, Catonsville lost to Young Harris
4-3. CCRI has defeated Catonsville 2-1, and lost to both Young Harris
and Monroe 2-1 in each contest which really could have gone either way.
There is a lot of parity in the NJCAA this year and CCRI is right in the
mix!
Go Knights!!!
Knights Men's Socer beat Globe 3-1 to improve
record to 7-4-2
The CCRI Men’s Soccer Team defeated Globe Institute 3-1
to improve their record to 7-4-2. Due to inclement weather The Knight’s game
with Globe was played at Navy Prep's field in Newport because of their Turf
field.
The Knights once again struck early, in the 7th
minute, on a goal from Nick Medeiros (West Warwick, RI), assisted by Jerry
Rico (Cranston, RI). Globe tied the game late in the first half on a goal by
Theo Abbey. CCRI scored twice in the second half on 2 unassisted goals
settling the score at 3-1. The first goal was from Todd Leveillee (North
Scituate, RI) and the second late in the half from Jose Grajales (Central
Falls, RI).
With three games left on their schedule Wednesday at
Manchester, Saturday versus Springfield Tech and Tuesday the 25th
versus Navy Prep, the Knights need every win they can get if they want to
make it to the Region XXI Tournament and beyond as they are one game out of
the playoffs in the loss column and may have to rely on Globe Institute,
currently 6-7, having a winning record at the end of the season in order for
The Knights to extend their season.
