Knights quell Quinsigamond CC 103-23
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team chopped
down the Chiefs of Quinsigamond CC 103-23. With the win the Knights improve
to 16-6 on the season and 9-0 min Region XXI.
Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) led the way for the
Knights scoring 26 points with five assists, five rebounds, and three
steals. With the 26 points Owens becomes only the 3rd player in
CCRI basketball history to score 1,200 points, raising his career mark to
1,215 just 125 points behind Rick Santos (’71-’73) who has 1,340
career points and 183 points behind Brendan Murphy (’90-’92) who has
1,398 career points. Also contributing for the Knights were Travon Little
(Danbury, CT) who scored 13 points with seven rebounds and three steals and
Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) who scored 12 points on four
3-pointers.
The Knights dominated the game from the opening tap
taking a 45-10 lead into halftime. In the second half the Knights were able
get their key reserves in to the action as Ben Stiles (Narragansett,
RI) scored nine points, Will Lyons (Warwick, RI) scored eight points
with 11 rebounds and AJ Coppola (Warwick, RI) scored seven points.
The Knights reserves were able to hold the Chiefs to just 13 second half
points to win by a final score of 103-23.
The Knights next game will be Thursday February 9th
versus Massasoit CC at the Cullen Field House on the CCRI Knight campus in
Warwick.

Nicholas, Stewart and Hannon set new school records
at Wesleyan Meet
The CCRI Knights men’s and women’s indoor track team
competed against 25 NJCAA division III schools and 2 four year colleges at
the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton,
MA), Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI), and Joe Hannon (Woonsocket,
RI) set new school records in their events in this non-scoring meet.
Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton, MA) had a great day along
with team mates Jasmine Jennings (Warwick, RI) and Mary Oyekoya
(Woonsocket, RI). Nicholas placed 4th in the High Jump
with a leap of 5’4" for a new school record, she placed 9th in
the 200m with a time of 28.26, and placed 7th in the 400m with a
time of 1:02.94. Jasmine Jennings (Warwick, RI) placed 1st
in the Weight Throw with a throw of 16.06m or 52’8.25" her best throw of
year, she placed 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.45m or
37’6.75". Mary Oyekoya (Woonsocket, RI) placed 4th in the
55 Hurdles with a time of 9.22 seconds but ran an amazing 9.13 in her trail
heat, she then placed 21st in the 200m with a time of 29.17
seconds.
Hunter Stewart (Foster, RI) and Kevin White
(Swansea, MA) both ran a strong 500m race. Stewart placed 5th
with a time of 108.75 for a new school record while White
finished just behind him in 6th with a time of 1:08.99. Both
times were 1.6 seconds off qualifying for NJCAA Nationals. Mike Dolan
(South Kingston, RI) placed 5th in the Weight Throw with a throw
of 46’5.75" only 6 inches off the NJCAA Standard. Joe Hannon
(Woonsocket, RI) 20th in 800m 2:07.59 new school record. Jumpers
Jamaal Muir (Warwick, RI) placed 5th in HJ 6’and John
Williams (West Warwick, RI) placed 6th in the Long Jump
20’5.75". Williams best jump of the year, but well off his personal
best. Brian Galvin (Seekonk, MA) placed 10th in the 1000m
with a time of 2:45.61 just missing the school record by .9 seconds.
The Knights next meet will be February 11th at
Wesleyan University Field events start at 10:00am, running events start at
11:00am.
Knights fall to Notre Dame Prep 77-58
The CCRI Knights women’s basketball team lost to the
undefeated Notre Dame Prep 77-58. With the loss the Knights fall to 12-8 on
the season.
The Knights were playing shorthanded without Center
Odessa Williams (Stratford, CT) and point guard Lasheena Boyd
(Stratford, CT). Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) led the Knights scoring
18 points and ripping down 14 rebounds. Johnson was helped by
Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT) who scored 10 points with six assists, two
steals and three blocks, Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY) who scored 11 points,
and Michelle McNamee (Cranston, RI) who scored nine points on three
3-pointers.
The Knights and Crusaders exchanged the lead back and
forth in the first half until Notre Dame pulled away late in the first half
to take a 33-23 lead into halftime. In the second half the Knights fought
hard in the second half but could not cut the lead to single digits losing
by a final of 77-58.
The Knights look to get back on track Saturday when they
face the Naval Prep School in Newport at 1:00pm before gearing-up to play
Division I power and Defending National Champion Monroe CC on Sunday at
1:00pm at the Cullen Field House on the CCRI Knight campus in Warwick.

Owens and Little lead Knights past Notre Dame Prep
101-90
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team
defeated the #1 prep school in the country Notre Dame Prep 101-90. With the
win the Knights improve their record to 15-6 on the season while NDP falls
to 20-2 on the season.
Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) led the Knights scoring
34 points with 10 rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks. Owens
was helped by the career night that Travon Little (Danbury, CT) had
scoring 26 points, ripping down a monster 20 rebounds, four steals and two
assists. Also contributing for the Knights were Marquis Victor
(Lawrence, MA) who scored 15 pints including two 3-pointers with three
assists, Jeremi Taitt (Roslindale, MA) scored 10 points with 13
rebounds, and Darby Brown (New London, CT) scored nine points with
three assists and two steals.
It was a tale of two halves for the Knights as they found
themselves behind in the first half to the highly touted Crusaders of Notre
Dame Prep 28-17 at the 11:00 mark on the 3-pointer by Robert Mitchell. The
Knights tried to fight but not even 13 points form Travon Little
could help cut into the lead as the Knights went into halftime trailing by
eleven 48-37. The Knights started the second half with an 18-7 run to tie
the game at 55-55 at the 12:40 mark. With the game tied Marvin Owens
took over with a steal and fast break lay-up to put the Knights ahead 57-55
Owens followed that with another floater to put them up 59-55 at the
11:40 mark. Paul Harris, top recruit for Syracuse, tried to keep the
Crusaders close with a driving lay-up to make the score 66-60 at the 9:00
mark but Marquis Victor answered with a 3-pointer putting the Knights
up 69-60. Later in the half Harris hit a 3-pointer to cut the Knight lead to
89-77 at the 4:00 mark but Owens answered with an alley-oop dunk
followed by a steal and reverse jam from Little that brought the
packed crowd to their feet in amazement putting the Knights up 93-77 at the
3:15 mark. With the Knights leading 97-81 with 2:14 left the Crusaders went
on a 9-0 run making the score 97-90 Owens sealed the victory with a
free throw and a driving lay-up and the 101-90 Knight victory.
The Knights next game will be Monday the 30th
at Quinsigamond CC at 6:00pm. Their next home games will be Thursday
February 9th versus Massasoit CC at 7:00pm and Saturday the 11th
versus Springfield Tech at 1:00pm at the Cullen Field House on the CCRI
Knight Campus in Warwick.

Shaw and Johnson lead Knights over Williams College
60-31
The CCRI Knights women’s basketball team defeated the
Ephs of Williams college JV team 60-31. With the win the Knights record
improves to 12-7 on the season.
Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT) led the Knights with 16 points
with seven rebounds and three assists. Also contributing for the Knights
were Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) who scored 10 points with eight rebounds,
three assists and two blocks and Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY) who added nine
points. Defensively the Knights were helped by Michelle McNamee (Cranston,
RI) who had four steals to go with her six points and Renee Buck (FT Gully,
Victoria, Australia) who added three steals to go with the seven points she
scored.
The Knights started slowly in the first half but were
still able to bring a 24-17 lead into half time. After the half the Knights
kicked their defense into high gear creating steals that led to fast break
lay-ups for the Knights giving the Knights a comfortable lead as they won
going away 60-31.
The Knights next game will be Sunday the 29th
at the highly touted Notre Dame Prep at 1:00pm

Johnson and Shaw lead Knights over CCBC-Dundalk 73-61
The #16 ranked CCRI Knights women’s basketball team
defeated the Lions of CCBC-Dundalk 73-61. With the win the Knights record
improves to 11-7 on the season.
Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) led the Knights with 22
points and 13 rebounds. Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT) also had a big night
scoring 19 points with four assists. Also contributing for the Knights was
Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) who scored nine points with a team leading 15
rebounds.
The Knights started the game slowly but wee able to take
their first lead of the game at the 14:35 mark on a steal and lay-up by
Tamara Shaw making the score 8-6. From there the Knights went on a 15-7 run
over the next ten minutes making the score 23-13 capped by a Shaw 3-pointer
at the 5:20 mark. The Knights kept a seven point lead at the half going in
up 30-23. In the second half the Knights extended their lead to 18 on a
baseline jumper by Jenny Kinney putting them up 48-30 at the 13:30 mark.
Dundalk cut the lead to nine at 52-61 at the 7:00 mark, but the Knights
answered with some strong defense over the next few minutes capped by a
3-point play from Monet Johnson making the score 71-56 with 3:15 left. From
there the Knights coasted to victory 73-56.
The Knights look to continue their winning ways in their
next game Wednesday the 25th at Williams College JV at 7:00pm.
Knights come up short versus Monroe College fall
94-84
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team lost to
Top 30 Division I power Monroe College 94-84. With the loss the Knights
record falls to 14-6 on the season.
Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) led the Knights scoring 26
points, ripping down 15 rebounds, swiping four steals and dishing out four
assists. Owens becomes the #3 scorer in CCRI history with 1,155 points
passing Willie Washington (‘75-’77) who has 1138 career points. Owens is now
just 243 points away from Brendan Murphy (90-92) who is the all—time scorer
with 1,398 career points. Also contributing for the Knights were Marquis
Victor (Lawrence, MA) who scored 14 points, Travon Little (Danbury, CT) who
scored 12 and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Darby Brown (New London, CT)
added 11 points.
The Knights jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first
two minutes but Monroe countered to tie the game at 6-6 by the 16:00 mark.
Monroe went on a 5-0 run to go up 11-6, but he Knights fought back to close
the margin to 11-10 on a steal and fast break dunk by Marvin Owens at the
13:15 mark. Monroe pulled ahead again 30-23 and the Knights again answered
cutting the lead to 32-31 on 1-2 free throws from Owens at the 3:00 mark.
Monroe closed the half on a 9-2 scoring run to go into halftime up 41-33. In
the second half the Knights were outscored 12-0 until Darby Brown sank a
3-pointer to cut the lead to 53-36. The Knights could never build any
momentum in the second half to mount an attack on the Monroe lead as the
Mustangs extended their lead to 19 at 65-50 at the 10:00 mark. The Knights
fought tough but could only cut the lead to ten losing 94-84.
The Knights next game will be Thursday the 26th
versus the highly touted Notre Dame Prep squad at 7:00 pm at the Cullen
Field House in Warwick.
Owens’ 39 points lead #15 Knights past #6 ranked
Gloucester County 91-87
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team
defeated the #6 ranked Division III Gloucester County College 91-87. With
the win the Knights record improves to 14-5 on the season. The Knights
celebrated the homecoming victory with their alumni on hand for the
weekend’s homecoming festivities.
Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) led the Knights pouring in
39 points with 13 rebounds, he was helped by Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA)
who added 17 points. Darby Brown (New London, CT) also played a key role
scoring eight points, with nine assists and an incredible six steals.
The first half went back and forth as each team had the
lead and the game was tied three times in the first ten minutes. At 10:20
Gloucester had a 20-19 lead when Darby Brown stole the ball dished to Marvin
Owens for the flush the next play was a mirror image with Brown swiping the
ball but adding a no-look pass to Owens for the fast break dunk bringing the
crowd to their feet with the 23-20 CCRI lead. The game remained close for
the rest of the half as the Knights went in up 44-42. At 15:45 in the second
half the Knights jumped out to a 12 point lead on a dunk from Owens making
the score 60-48. The Knights could not keep the lead as they went through a
scoring drought over the next six minutes as the lead was cut to 68-66 at
9:16. With 2:00 left Owens put the Knights up 83-78 on the next play Connor
Evans (Cranston, RI) fouled out as did Travon Little (Danbury, CT) on a
technical foul giving Gloucester the four free throws down by five with 1:25
on the clock Gloucester could only convert 1-4 from the line 83-79 CCRI with
1:23. With 24 seconds left Brown swiped another critical steal after going
0-2 from the line the steal led to a 2-2 effort from Brown from the line
giving the Knights the 88-83 lead Owens then followed with the exclamation
point dunk to seal the Knight victory.
The Knights play again Sunday at 6:00 pm versus Division
I power Monroe College at the Cullen Field House In Warwick.
Kinney and Boyd power #16 ranked Knights passed
Mercer County CC 88-52.
The #16 ranked CCRI Knights women’s basketball team
defeated Mercer County CC 88-52. With the win the Knights record improves to
10-7 on the season. The Knights victory was a great way to kick-off the CCRI
Homecoming festivities planned for the weekend.
Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) led the Knights with 26 points
and 14 rebounds. Also contributing for the Knights was Lasheena Boyd
(Stratford, CT) who scored 22 points with five assists and two steals and
Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT) added 15 points including three 3-pointers with
five assists.
The Knights went ahead early 13-2 behind two 3-pointers
by Tamara Shaw five minutes in. The Knights kept the eleven-point lead
through the first half led by ten points from Lasheena Boyd going in to the
half leading 38-27. The second half was dominated by the Knights led by
Jenny Kinney who scored 22, of her team leading 26 points in the second
half. The Knights extended their lead to 23 on a baseline jumper from Kinney
with 10:47 left. The Knights took a 32-point lead on a fast break lay-up by
Boyd at 4:00 and the Knights never looked back as they went on to win 88-52.
The Knights play Sunday at 4:00pm versus CCBC-Dundalk at
the Cullen Field House on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.

Knights handle Holyoke 115-38 to snap four-game skid
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team
defeated the Cougars of Holyoke 115-38. With the win the Knights record
improves to 13-5 and 8-0 in Region XXI.
Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) the nation’s #2 scorer led
the Knights with 26 points, right on his average (26.5ppg) with eight
rebounds and six assists. Also contributing for the Knights were Jeremi
Taitt (Roslindale, MA) who charted a double-double scoring 20 points with 10
rebounds, Travon Little (Danbury, CT) who scored 12 points with eleven
rebounds and five assists, while AJ Coppola (Warwick, RI) and Ray Ross (Port
Washington, NY) each added 10 points including two 3-pointers each.
The Knights controlled the game from the opening tap and
cruised in the first half taking a 53-20 lead into halftime. The second half
was an opportunity for Head Coach Dave Chevalier to evaluate the talent of
key reserves as everyone got into the game where all but two players scored.
The reserves showed well as they held the Cougars to just 18 second half
points as the Knights rolled on to a 77-point victory 115-38.
The Knights will now look forward to this weekend’s
Homecoming games versus Gloucester County on Saturday at 7:00pm and Monroe
College on Sunday at 6:00pm
The #7 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team lost
to Division I #16 ranked Globe Institute 96-88. With the loss the CCRI
Knights record falls to 12-5 on the season.
The Knights were led by Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) who
scored 29 points with eight assists and six rebounds. Owens started the day
ranked #8 on the CCRI all-time scoring list and with his 29 he moved up to
#4 with 1,064 career points 334 points behind #1 Brendan Murphy’s 1,398
career points (’90-’92). Travon Little (Danbury, CT) added a double double
with 19 points and 12 rebounds and two blocks. Also contributing for the
Knights were Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) who had 20 points and Connor
Evans (Cranston, RI) scored 12 points with six rebounds.
The Knights led for most of the first half taking a 41-38
lead into halftime. Globe Institute tied the game quickly in the second half
as the game seesawed back and forth for most of the second half. The game
was tied at 61-61 at the 11:10 mark and 68-68 at the 7:09 mark. The Knights
took a 71-70 lead on a 3-pointer by Connor Evans at 6:40. From there Globe
went on a 11-3 run to take the lead 81-73 at the 4:15 mark a lead they kept
for the rest of the game winning by a final of 96-88.
The Knights next game will be Thursday January 19th
at Holyoke CC at 7:00pm. The Knights next home games will be Saturday the 21st
at 7:00 pm versus Gloucester CC and Sunday at 6:00pm versus Division I
Monroe CC as part of the CCRI Homecoming Weekend at the Cullen Field house
on the CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick.
CCRI Jumpers lead way at Wesleyan Invitational
CCRI High Jumpers, Sherilyn Nicholas (Taunton, MA) and
Jaimaal Munir (Warwick, RI), won their events at Wesleyan Invitational.
Munir cleared 6’2" to win the men’s event and Nicholas cleared 5’2" to win
the women’s. Munir also placed 3rd in the long jump with a leap
of 19’6.75" and 7th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 37’5.25"
Nicholas also set a CCRI school record in the 600m run
with a time of 1:44.80. Nicholas broke her own record she had set last
season and placed 6th and qualified her for the NJCAA Nationals.
Mike Dolan (South Kingston, RI) broke the School record in the 35lb weight
throw of 45’ and placed 2nd.
Other Note fine performances in the 200m Nicholas
finished 6th at 28.20. In the 55m hurdles Mary Oyekoya
(Woonsocket, RI) finished 4th with a time of 9.30. All-American
Jasmine Jennings (Warwick, RI) finished 1st in the Weight Throw
with a heave of 50’9.25" and 3rd in the Shot Put with a throw of
37’3.25". Maurice Rogers (Clinton, MA) finished 6th in the 200m
with a time of 23.91 and 6th in the 55m with a time of 7.06 and 7th
in the 400m with a time of 55.31. Anthony Saucier (Coventry, RI) finished 8th
in the 55m with a time of 7.10, Kevin White (Swansea, MA) finished 7th
in the 600m 1:30.39 and 6th in the Triple jump 37-08.75. Nick
Wienhofer (New Foundland, Canada) finished 3rd and set a new
school record in the 55m Hurdles with a time of 8.95.
The Knights next meet will again be at Wesleyan on
January 28th. The Knights look to remain sharp as they head into
the critical stretch run of the indoor track season.

CCRI Knights women lose to Monroe College 84-69
The CCRI Knights women’s basketball team lost to the
undefeated #1 ranked Lady Mustangs of Monroe College 84-69. With the loss
the Knights record falls to 9-7 on the season.
Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) scored 19 points to lead the
Knights while Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) added 12 points. Also contributing
for the Knights were Co-Captain Renee Buck (FT Gully, Victoria, Australia)
and Lasheena Boyd (Stratford, CT) who each scored 10 points.
The Knights got behind quickly due to the outstanding
shooting of the nations leading scorer Fantasia Goodwin (27.7 points per
game) who scored the first 11 for the Lady Mustangs putting them up 11-7 at
the 16:00 mark. Goodwin put them up eight early on a follow at the 10:00
mark but the Knights fought back to tie the game at 34-34 on a baseline
lay-up 3-point play by Co-Captain Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY). Monroe took a
37-34 lead into the half behind 21 points from Goodwin. In the second half
the Knights were stifled by the Monroe trapping defense which helped them to
extend their lead to 19 points at 57-38 at the 13:00 mark. The Knights later
cut the lead to nine at 70-61 on a driving lay-up by Kinney at 4:00 but the
Knights would get no closer falling by a final score of 84-69. Fantasia
Goodwin led all scorers with 39 points
The Knights will look to play well at CCRI Homecoming
weekend this weekend as they will face #16 ranked Mercer County CC on
Saturday at 5:00pm and CCBC-Dundalk Sunday at 4:00pm Sunday at the Cullen
Field house in Warwick.

Notre Dame shoots lights out of Knights 91-73
The CCRI Knights lost to the Lady Crusaders of Notre Dame
Prep 91-73. With the loss the Knights’ record falls to 8-6 on the season.
The Knights were led by Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) who
scored a career-high 33 points including three 3-pointers and 6-6 from the
free throw line with seven rebounds. Also contributing for the Knights were
Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) who played only the second half and charted a
double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT)
who scored 14 points including four 3-pointers with four rebounds three
assists and two blocks winning 91-73.
The Knights look to bounce back in their next home game
Sunday January 15th at 1:00pm versus Division I power Globe

Knight women lose to Palm Beach CC 49-42
The CCRI Knights women’s basketball team fell to Division
I Palm Beach CC 49-42. With the loss the Knights record falls to 8-5 on the
season.
The Knights were led by Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) who
scored 19 points with eight rebounds and two steals. Also contributing for
the Knights were Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT) who scored eight points with four
steals and Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) who scored seven points with 10
rebounds.
The Knights were flat in the first half as they did not
score their first basket until four minutes into the game and trailed 23-13
at the half. In the second half the Knights came out invigorated as they
went on a 14-4 run to tie the game at 27-27 at the 14:55 mark on a Johnson
follow-up basket. However, that’s as close as the Knights would get as Palm
Beach was able to extend their lead to eight at 45-37 with 4:30 left and won
by the final of 49-42.
The Knights next game will be Thursday January 12th
versus Notre Dame Prep at 7:00pm at the Cullen Field House in Warwick.
Knights edged out by Palm Beach 90-86
The #2 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team was
edged out by the Division I Palm Beach CC Panthers 90-86. With the loss the
Knights record falls to 12-4 on the season.
The Knights were led by Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) who
scored 30 points with six rebounds despite missing half of the first half
with a cut lip as a result of an elbow to the face three minutes into the
game. Also contributing for the Knights were Connor Evans (Cranston, RI) who
scored 15 points with 11 rebounds and five assists, Jim Reynolds (Warwick,
RI) scored 11 points, while Travon Little (Danbury, CT) and Marquis Victor
(Lawrence, MA) added 10 points each.
The went back and forth in the first half as each team
exchanged the lead a few times until the end of the first half when the
Panthers went on an 11-2 run to take a 29-17 lead with 6:00 left in the
half. The Knights closed the gap to seven by halftime at 42-35. The Knights
came out more aggressive in the second half and were able to tie the score
at 54-54 on a 3-pointer by Evans at the 12:15 mark and were able to take a
58-57 lead on a baseline basket by Reynolds at the 11:20 mark. The game
remained tight until Palm Beach went on a mini-run to extend the lead to
83-74 with just 2:00 left but the Knights battled back and cut the lead to
83-81 on a three point play by Evans with 50.1 seconds left. The Knights did
not get any closer as Palm Beach made most of their free throws down the
stretch and the on the only on that they missed with 7.6 seconds left the
Knights could not grab. The Knights showed tremendous heart but could not
pull out the victory.
The Knights next game will be Sunday January 15th
versus Division I Globe Institute at 3:00pm at the Cullen Field House in
Warwick.

CCRI women beat Broward CC 72-39 to improve to 8-4
The CCRI Knights women’s basketball team beat the
Seahawks of Broward CC 72-39. With the win the Knights improve to 8-4 on the
season.
The Knights were led by Jenny Kinney (Milford, NJ) who
scored 15 points with eight rebounds, Lasheena Boyd (Stratford, CT) who also
scored 15 points with three rebounds and two assists, and Monet Johnson
(Brooklyn, NY) who scored 14 pints with eight rebounds three assists and
four steals. Also contributing for the Knights were Tamara Shaw (Norwalk,
CT) who got her first start and scored nine points with 10 rebounds, three
assists and two steals and Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY) who scored seven points
and two steals.
The Knights dominated the game from the opening tap as
they played a swarming defensive style led by Shaw that did not allow
Broward to get into their offense. Offensively in the first half the Knights
were led by Johnson who had 10 points and Kinney who scored nine points. The
Knights took a 20-10 lead at the 8:00 mark after two free throws from
Kinney. From there the Knights went on a 20-9 run to close the half up
40-19. In the second half Thew Knights were led by Boyd where scored 10 of
her 15 points on multiple fast-break lay-ups that demoralized the Seahawks.
The Knights extended the lead to 31 on a lay-up by Boyd at the 7:30 mark and
the Knights never looked back as they won by the final 72-39.
The Knights next game will be Saturday the 7th
at 2:00pm versus Palm Beach CC.
Owens scores 1000th point in 101-86 Knight
loss to Broward CC
The #2 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team fell to
Division I powerhouse Seahawks Broward CC 101-86. With the loss the Knights
record drops to 12-3.
The Knights were led by Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) who
scored a season-high 42 points with 10 rebounds and five assists. Owens also
set a career milestone scoring his 1000th point on a driving
lay-up at the 9:00 mark in the second half. Also having a big game for the
Knights was Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) who scored 22 points. The Knights
two leading scorers Owens and Victor accounted for 64 of the Knights 86
total points.
The CCRI Knights played Broward tough in the first half
as they tied the game at 14-14 on a 3-pointer from Victor. Over the next
three minutes the Seahawks went on a 13-4 run to extend the lead to nine at
27-18 at the 9:00 mark. The Knights could not get any closer in the first
half as the Seahawks took a 50-38 lead into halftime. The Knights started
the second half on a 17-10 run that closed the Seahawk lead to five at 60-55
at the 14:00 mark. The Knights kept battling and tied the game 66-66 on an
Owens 3-pointer at the 11:55 mark. The Seahawks went on a 6-1 run to go up
72-67 as Owens answered with a driving lay-up at the 9:00 minute mark
scoring his 1000th point. The Knights tied the game again at
76-76 on a 3-pointer from Victor at the 6:40 mark. Down the stretch the
Knights were outscored 25-10 to end the game 101-86. Owens career scoring
mark now stands at 1005 career points placing him 9th on the CCRI
all-time scoring list.
The Knights next game will be Saturday the 7th
versus Palm Beach CC at 4:00pm.

CCRI Knights men and women fall to Miami-Dade CC in
Florida
Men
The #2 ranked CCRI Knights men’s basketball team fell to
Division I power Sharks of Miami-Dade 123-84. With the loss the Knights
record falls to 12-2 on the season.
The Knights were led by Marvin Owens (Bridgeport, CT) who
had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Connor Evans (Cranston,
RI) who score 16 with eight rebounds and Jeremi Taitt (Roslindale, MA) who
got his first action of the season and scored 15 points with five rebounds.
Also contributing for the Knights were Jim Reynolds (Warwick, RI) who scored
10 points and Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) added nine points.
The Knights kept the game close in the first half of the
first half of the game as they were down just 17-15 after a Marvin Owens
dunk off a steal and pass form Connor Evans at the 12:00 mark. From there
the Sharks outscored the Knights 45 to 26 which extended the lead to 21 by
halftime at 62-41. In the second half the onslaught continued as the Knights
sloppy play led to easy baskets for Miami-Dade leading to the final of
123-84.
The Knights next game will be versus Broward CC at 7:00pm
on Thursday.
Women
The #15 ranked CCRI Knights women’s basketball team lost
to the Division I Sharks of Miami-Dade CC 75-63. With the loss the Knights
record falls to 7-4 on the season but 7-2 versus Division II teams.
The Knights wee led by Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) who
scored 21 points with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, Odessa
Williams (Stratford, CT) who scored 15 points with five rebounds and Renee
Buck (FT Gully, Victoria, Australia) who scored 12 points.
The Knights were not playing their best basketball but
fought tough in the first half as they were down 21-20 with 6:30 left in the
first half but the Sharks went on a 14-5 run to go into the half up 35-25.
In the second half Miami-Dade extended their lead to 15 points but the
Knights cut the lead down to nine at 57-66 with 2:21 left on the
three-pointer by Tamara Shaw (Norwalk, CT). The Knights could get no closer
as they lost both point guards Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY) and Renee Buck in the
next 30 seconds halting he Knight comeback as the fell to the final of
75-63.
The Knights next game will be versus Broward CC at 5:30
on Thursday right before the men’s game.

CCRI Knights are ready for three game Florida road
trip
The CCRI men’s and women’s basketball teams leave Tuesday
morning January 3rd for their annual three game road trip to
Florida where they will play Division I powers Miami-Dade CC, Broward CC,
and Palm Beach CC. The Knights hope to improve on last year’s results on
this trip where the men went 0-3 and the women went 2-1 losing only to Palm
Beach CC.
The CCRI Men’s Basketball team started the season ranked
#15 in the Nation in the pre-season poll, currently they are ranked #2 in
the Nation winning eleven games in a row, with a record of 12-1, 8-0 in
Region XXI and 21 in a row in Region XXI over the last two years. The
Knights are led by the #3 scorer in the country, Marvin Owens (Bridgeport,
CT) averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 3.3 steals per
game, Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) averaging 16.8 points per game. Also
contributing are Connor Evans (Cranston, RI) averaging 12.5 points and 8.2
rebounds per game and Travon Little (Danbury, CT) averaging 10.7 points and
8.2 rebounds per game. The Knights look to continue on their winning ways
the second half of the season however they will have to do it against much
better competition as five of their next games will be against Division I
schools three of whom they will face on this road trip.
The Knights Division I schedule begins Wednesday January
4th when they face Miami-Dade CC at 6:00pm then they will play
Broward CC Thursday at 7:00pm, and they will finish the road trip Saturday
at Palm Beach CC at 4:00pm.
The CCRI women’s basketball team started the season
ranked #19 in the pre-season poll, currently they are ranked #15 with a 7-3
record. The Knights are led by Monet Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) who is averaging
16.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, Lasheena Boyd (Stratford,
CT) averaging 10.6 points and 3.1 assists. Also contributing are Co-Captain
Odessa Williams (Stratford, CT) averaging 11.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per
game, Jenny Kinney (Milford, CT) averaging 9 points and 5.6 rebounds per
game and Co-Captain Ana Sierra (Bronx, NY) averaging 7.6 points per game
while providing leadership on the court at the point. The Knights have
played most of their games without starting point guard Renee Buck (FT
Gully, Victoria, Australia) so the second half of the season the Knights
should improve and become more cohesive with aspirations of reaching the
National tournament for the 3rd year in a row.
The second half of the season begins Wednesday January 4th
at 4:00pm when the Knights face Miami-Dade CC from there they will play
Broward CC Thursday at 5:30pm, and Palm Beach Saturday the 7th at
2:00pm.
