CCRI’s Ken Hopkins Named Head Coach of Sanford River Rats in the FCSL

CCRI Head Baseball Coach Ken Hopkins has been selected as the Head Coach of the Sanford River Rats in the Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL). This will be Hopkins’ third season coaching in the FCSL. Previously he coached the Altamonte Spring Snappers in 2006 and the Winter Haven Warthogs in 2005.

Hopkins is eager and ready to get started on the upcoming 2008 FCSL season. “I am looking to help the players develop so when they go back to their four-year school they can get more playing time,” he says.

Hopkins is in his eighth year at the Community College of Rhode Island and has obtained a record of 163-81-2. He was named the New England Division II Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002. He will be leaving CCRI soon for the beginning of the league and will be living in Winter Park, Fla. a few miles outside the city of Orlando. Sanford is located to the north of the city. This is the same stadium where he coached in back in the early ’80s. It was renovated a few years ago and serves as the flagship franchise of the league. He will be returning to Rhode Island in early August to take over the day to day operations of the CCRI baseball program. In the interim, Joe Vigeant and Ray Tessaglia will be running the one-week baseball camp at CCRI June 23 through June 27.
